Well the premium spec car stateside is $32,000 which converts to £24500 in sterling. We always get pumped here so it’s not a surprise when we get charged more for paint.
America seem to get all the fun Japanese cars at the moment, I was gutted when the 400Z didn’t come here and now the GR Corolla, a sign of things to come and it’s why I’m jumping on the GR86.
So after tax it's practically the same price in the UK as in the US. I can't remember this ever happening. America seem to get all the fun Japanese cars at the moment, I was gutted when the 400Z didn’t come here and now the GR Corolla, a sign of things to come and it’s why I’m jumping on the GR86.
Been looking to change my current car for past 6-12 months but nothing affordable appeals, really like the look of these and with potentially low depreciation, buying new could be an option.
I’m in no rush and would rather see the car and test drive one before ordering,
From the information in the article the car will only be produced for 2 years, I assume that production won’t be limited numbers so if I want one there is no reason to rush into ordering?

I've already placed a deposit for a Sapphire Blue one.My understanding is, the offical order opening date in Germany was last week and from what I can tell from the Toyota DE website it is now not possible to order again due to being sold out for now ... well until 2023.

There is no vehicle limit for the GR86. They will be sold until Jul 2024 (when new safety regs come into play). The only impact on numbers will be how many they can produce in that time. Some will want the run out model year others won't.From the information in the article the car will only be produced for 2 years, I assume that production won’t be limited numbers so if I want one there is no reason to rush into ordering?

In the past 4 years I have bought 4 new cars and may be ordering another soon. All of them cost between £500-£600 for metallic paint.
In the U.S the two blues are free, there are 5 free paint choices. The only cost option paint is pearl white and red at $425. Add VAT and that converts to £390.
I thought Toyota was a reasonable company but at the very least the U.K marketing department thinks it can take the proverbial charging £965 for paint that costs nothing in the U.S.

Very interesting, thanks.
Think I might take a trip to the local Toyota dealership over the weekend, trouble is I know if I go in I’ll end up ordering
Do they have one? I can't even see it on the Toyota website?Think I might take a trip to the local Toyota dealership over the weekend, trouble is I know if I go in I’ll end up ordering
Lots of hype on the PH forum for this car but seemingly nowhere else on the internet?! I signed up to all the mailshots from Toyota and via local dealers and haven't even had an email about ordering opening on Monday!
Germany selling out... Again more hearsay that they only got a 200 car allocation so who really knows what that means in terms of UK demand and numbers?!

Therefore there is a limit. If demand is anything like the Yaris I'd rather not take my chances.
My local dealer has sold 6 already.

Good morning everyone, this is my first post. I'm a long-term reader of this site on and off over the last 15 years or so.
I thought I'd dive in with my initial post and confirm that I've paid a deposit on a silver GR86, with the order to be confirmed next week when the ordering system goes live.
Congratulations to other future owners and I look forward to discussing and sharing ownership experiences.

There's a post on GR-Zoo where you can register what you've ordered too.

I do like the look of the 'ducktail' spolier. I enquired on the Toyota site about the official availability, but it doesn't look like it will be available that way.
I would love to see the reasoning behind this not being available in the UK. AFAIK the Fensport one is only available in 3 colours (white, black, and red) so won’t work for my grey 86. Delahorney said:

Looks like in Germany they have a whole host of options, including the ducktail: https://www.toyota.de/automobile/gr86/buildSo there can't be any homologation/legality reason for no ducktail in the UK, more Toyota just want to punt single spec cars? Kinda disappointing when this is a highly configurable/optionable car in Germany and the US?

Perhaps it’s going to end up being easier to get one of these spoilers from Germany than Japan then. I just really want one, really completes the back of the car in my opinion. Plus, if they’re touting the UK spec as the “premium” from everywhere else, then why doesn’t it include it like all the other premium specs do? Just a baffling decision. German premium doesn't include the spoiler either. I think I read somewhere it was to do with the drag and knock on effect to co2 rating. It is a dealer fit option there thoughDanza said:

It's available on the de configurator as an official option, with no mention of co2 or dealer fit.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
