I'd be running a mile looking at the MOT history; plus it's got the pixel issue which make me also think that's probably the position the temperature gauge permanently resides.
That's a weird issue they have. They also have that awful plastic thing under the clutch pedal

White over blue with the 5 pot is a great combination. Refresh the black lower trims and fit some nicer wheels and it'd be a lovely summer cruiser.

I was expecting that to be more expensive.

I'd say that's an utter bargain and a genuine modern classic and is a bit of thread gold. These were such well-built cars. If I had the space...

Audi of that period all seem to have a really nice smell to them. Every late 90's Audi I've ever sat in has had this really nice almost sweet smell to them, it's nostalgic because it's the exact same odour my auntie/uncle's 1997 B5 A4 had 18 odd years ago.

I had a late 90’s Audi Audi A4 1.8SE back in the day. Whilst not a very exciting drive, it was built like a bank vault.

Always liked these, and at the time, supremely elegant. My Mum had a 2.6 for ages, and it was nice.

But IMHO, the 1990s Merc E320 cabriolet has aged better (possibly because it is so different to Merc's subsequent offerings in the class, wherea the Audi design language was pretty evident through the A4), and the (original) Saab 900 Aero is more interesting.

Which is why I have the Saab and the Merc, but not the Audi!

But the Audi is a fraction of the price of the Saab or Merc, so actually far better value for retro roof-off motoring. Stonking value, in fact.

Sadly, it drove like one, too smile

To be fair, no 90's convertible was great? My Merc is a weighty barge that really is best at 80mph on a straight road, my Saab sounds amazing but wobbles like a jelly (it's way more fun than the E320) and I remember the E36 BMW being the best of a bad bunch, but not exactly amazing.

I suspect the Audi is just "of its time".

Agreed.

A different class of convertible perhaps, and much dearer, but while my old SL (129) was a heavy old beast, it was considerably more dynamic in corners and had much less scuttle shake. Not that I’m claiming that the SL was a Caterham in disguise smile.

I'd only buy that if they throw in the bespoke carpeting as a sweetener.

That looks awesome, but I don't think I've ever seen a car I'd want to be in *less* during a head on crash

Not sure about that, I once saw the remains of a Reliant Regal that had been in a head on - dustpan and brush job. I was puzzled by the case of beers that survived the impact, albeit 20 metres from the crash scene.

I went as a Paramedic to head on between a Robin and a motorcyclist - there was virtually nothing left in front of the remains of the windscreen of the Robin - an engine block and almost a bare chassis. The motorcyclist was in a very, very bad way but he is still alive now.

Not for first time drivers.
The difference in insurance between an old Punto and a 2007 Panda, for my newly qualified daughter, some years back, was immense.
I guess they must be easy to steal.

Had the 1.2 16v version and it was a great little car. Loved the front end styling which got worse with the 2nd generation.

As much as I love the whizzkid, that one has some questionable MOT advisories.

When was the last time you saw a Fiat Punto MK1? My sister had one, a 60s. It was a properly fun thing to thrash about in.
