Early Duster's rusted, after a yer or so in build they changed the factory they were produced in and they stopped going rusty. They're not bad things to be honest

Incredible style and roof off summer fun for very little outlay.

Have you driven one of those Dacias? A company I worked for put a couple in the pool fleet because they were dirt cheap, and I came to despise them. They're absolutely st to drive, they are like a not very good car from the 80s in the way they ride, handle, and feel (and despite misty eyes we've come a long way), although they are as good as you can expect for the original asking price. They're cheap for a reason, both new and old. Oh, and they rust.

Outside the handful of people who buy one because work compells them to have a new car and they want to spend as little as possible they are aimed at the same people who bought Ladas/Skodas/Yugos/Protons and other poor cars because they just had to have a brand new one. Once they don't have the "value" associated with being a brand new car they're about as appealing as genital warts.

I'd happily spend £5k on an ageing CRV over that, it'll be better to drive and no less reliable.

I've driven one round Iceland. Didn't hate it at all, infact I was quite disappointed when I had to give it back

Another French oddity:

A Renault 15 GTL Coupe. I have never seen one of these before:

Love these, although they're definitely not the prettiest car to come out of France they do have a certain charm.
A pal of my dad's had the racier 17, with double headlights and louvres on a smaller side window - looked Ace to an 8 year old me
Love the 15, 17 and the Fuego. Where are they all now?!

For those with huge balls and a desire to own one of the most unreliable pieces of st I've ever had the displeasure of owning (second only to a 996):

Loved my 19 16v executive, one of the best handling hot hatches I owned

White over blue with the 5 pot is a great combination. Refresh the black lower trims and fit some nicer wheels and it'd be a lovely summer cruiser.

You could start a collection and have a Whizzkid as well: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1321618

One of the first cars I owned was a whizzkid, affectionately known as the scarab, brilliant wee thing that rusted before my eyes and whilst I was sleepimg

Had the 1.2 16v version and it was a great little car.
I saw a MKI Panda 4x4 with that engine in it not so long ago. Nicely restored in a dark metallic Green with a lovely tan leather interior, the door cards and hammock dash were done in the leather too, with a half leather/polished wood steering wheel.
Was that a conversion? Must have been a great wee thing with that engine

I'm posting this car here, but it's in America and will probably go over 5k in £ or $. It's the Nissan Pao owned by Regular Car Reviews on Youtube. The auction was posted around an hour ago, it's $2000 now, 20 minutes ago it was $500.

I like Nissan Pao, in a 2cv, Original Fiat Panda or Renault 4 kind of way (I think the design is vaguely based on a Renault 4?). An basic bare minimum car.
Agreed, really like the Pao, and the bigger Honda Element which seems to have leant some of its styling cues to the new three door defender?

I test drove one in that combo, had one in blue with black leather for a couple of years. Nice summer fun, sketchy build quality.

Love it that it even has a Poirot moustache

The earler 15 and 17 were less in your face, although still with comedic overhangs and there are still 17s about. This "targa" actually had a folding full length sunroof.

I just said goodbye to my 405 after around 3-4 months of ownership. I can say without any doubt that it was my favourite car to own, it cost nothing to run, gave me no real issues and still drove as a competent daily driver. For £500-£1500 I just can't think of a classic or retro car that can come close to it. It blows my old Sierra out of the water. The thread for anyone who wants to give it a read, my emotional last post is a bit longwinded though

My wife had a 306 diesel for 9 years, a great car although the rear discs set up was overkill and seized regularly.
Did consider the 306 cabrio when she wanted a drop top. Investigated one but it was badly scratched, Have heard they suffer from scuttle shake.

Thoughts on this? No VIN plate, bought with no keys and no logbook after being hidden in a garage since 2000. Surely nobody was bothering to ring Sierras as late as 2000?

Like most '70s and '80s Renaults they've disintegrated to nothing unfortunately. Even when they were main dealer bread and butter we had loads of problems with crap build quality and flaky electrics and would regularly recover ones some knuckledragger more used to working on Marinas and Escorts had taken apart and couldn't get back together.

They weren't really anything special to drive though - they were a simply styling exercise built around the R12, 16 and 18 platforms and shared the same engines brakes and suspension as the saloons. The Fuego Turbo especially was a real triumph of style over substance.
