I did lust after these in a quiet unassuming way.
I had a 1.7D NA Astra at the time in the 2 door Kamm back shape which had excellent fuel economy. 60mpg and was brilliant in snow.
This was the next logical step. A very cohesive design, FWD, aerodynamic, and fuel economy that meant touring, Europe etc was achievable on meagre income, in the days before cheap flights made that mostly irrelevant.

“Mmm, can’t wait for some good weather so I can go for a fun drive in my [checks notes] diesel Cavalier” - this seller, apparently The ultimate mid 90's thrusting sales manager chariot (before the mondeo landed).

I do like the large 'turbo' graphic on the engine cover though.

Strange or not, that’s how cars like this have to be treated. High days and holidays only. Its value and condition are a function of the very low mileage. If you use it as a daily driver for a few years and pile the miles on it, it becomes just another 1990s banger.

It did, however, drag 5 people back from the south of France with a broken water pump and no coolant in the engine. Got as far as Ipswich before it died.
I know they're cheaply built old hire car fodder, but I think in white on these wheels it looks great as a summer cruiser. Just needs to be a bit lower.

What are they based on underneath? I can't think where the 2.5 engine would come from - it won't be a Ford/Volvo unit will it?

I'm very tempted to call about this. I love the colour, 3.0 engine, and 6 speed manual.

Plus points.....1 owner from new , apparently , I do like a car that hasn't been sold every 5 minutes .
Low point......Service history complete up to 42000 , what about the bit up to 76000 miles ?
It's not a surprise the 170 is on the up , next best thing to the RS on the MK1 Focus and that ship sailed long time ago .
St170 is a great drive. A friend had a sheddy one a few years back and even a bit baggy at 100k miles, it was a hoot. Low point......Service history complete up to 42000 , what about the bit up to 76000 miles ?

If I didn't live in the land of ULEZ and needed a station car for some country roads every day, one of these, debadged, would be it.
