Rather taken by this, has all the track focussed additions I'd like such as mkII brakes and K400 but the age is getting on for a track car. I suppose that's reflected in the price, too many miles and modifications for the investor market and a bit long in the tooth for the track slag brigade.
How can a car on 60k miles be long in the tooth for the track slag brigade? Rather taken by this, has all the track focussed additions I'd like such as mkII brakes and K400 but the age is getting on for a track car. I suppose that's reflected in the price, too many miles and modifications for the investor market and a bit long in the tooth for the track slag brigade.
This is a bit like when my mate was selling his German Carrera Cup winning 997.2 racer fresh from a complete refresh at Schutz Motorsport (Manthey's biggest rival). The first question prospective British buyers asked was not how many hours on the engine/box/suspension, but "Does it have original panels?" WTF?
Another mate of mine owns Adrian Ong's/Terryb's Trigger's Broom Mk1 K400. Despite its 100k on the engine it showed a clean pair of heels to one of the finest Mk2s in the UK in an impromptu drag race down the M25. Not once but twice... And yes, the Mk2 driver is very capable...
As for the investor market - fk them! A boggo 996.1 GT3 is nothing to shout home about. I would go as far as to say, it is actually rather disappointing. I would prefer a CSL. A K400 is what the Mk1 should have been on day one. Their loss is your gain. Last but not least - as time goes on, given the rariry of the Mk1, especially in CS form and in the launch colour. I think originality will matter less and less. Oh, and by the way, you arent paying top dollar. For God's sake, POS aircooled stuff, which cannot hold a candle to the Mk1 GT3 from any perspective except the ability to promote facial hair growth, sells for a lot more...
P.S. Yes, I am a bit biased...

Sorry I think you’ve misunderstood my point, when I said long in the tooth I meant it was a 20+ year old car.
Seeing a truck load E46 M3 being spanked to an inch of their bootfloors and conrod bearings ![silly](/inc/images/silly.gif)
Honestly, you are getting a warranry from a reputable indy and there isn't much out there at that kind of money which hangs together so well as a complete package. Alternatively, try and find a ropey CAT C/D for a lot less and bring up to scratch to your taste/timeline.
BUT...
Good cars cost good money and will always fetch good money on resale provided the market hasn't tanked completely and you have looked after the car. If you think the mkt will tank and you are worried about your "investment", then you should be leasing or not buying anything at all...
So... buy it then ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
But to be fair, there is quite a sizeable difference in 60k of track miles and 60k of Road miles and the effect it has on the car, but I suppose as long as everything has been looked after appropriately then there shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s a hefty amount of car for the money in reality, as long as it’s not for investment purposes then it should make a wonderful weekend toy, would have preferred it in a nice shade of blue despite how fabulous the paint work looks.
The “Driver involvement” market does seem to be rising in the performance car market, get em while you can.

I have a 996.1 K400 CS with 37k on the clock. It was used by its first owner in regularity rallies in the Eifel as well as for his Rewe (German Supermaket chain - closest they have to Waitrose) runs between Meuspath and Adenau down the one way toll road. I would say that now, Sally the Porsche is tighter and in better shape than when she left Weissach (allegedly). Anything that was ever broken was replaced either with a better Motorsport component or factory fresh part. So as you say, it's all down to the level of maintanence and budget availability. From what I have seen inside their workshop, they seem to know their onions very well and I doubt they would put their name behind a lemon (no connection to 9E, btw)![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

I've not been on track recently however the last few times we were at the 'ring we were one of only a couple of 996/997 GT3 RS. I'm not saying people don't track them any more but it is getting less and less.
A lot will like a cheaper car than where the market values a GT3, another lot will like a newer car without the foibles of something 20+ years.
Those for whom the above doesn't matter and still resolve to get their machines out on track have my utmost respect. I can think of nothing more pointless than a GT3 K400 sat in a heated garage going nowhere but the show 'n shine.
Browsing some classifieds for the first time in a while and this caused a slight double-take - I wondered if Alfaholics were branching out into Volvos ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
