They are very good, comfy seats, go over 60 mph without music on and you can hear everything, wind noise, road noise, cars going the other way, it gets so noisy that at that speed you cant hear the indicators ticking. Absolutely no rattles and everything seems well made, it is rock hard plastic though!

A couple of things that put me off the Skoda was that firstly the dealership was full of the elderly and on the way to the Mitsubishi dealer I saw loads of Octavia taxis.
It was a lovely shade of blue though and had that lovely big touch screen radio that Skoda and Volkswagen share, it also had a boot button on the key, for me it really is the little things that make a big difference.
Heh, don't let that put you off - all the Octavia Taxis are boring, Diesel death-mobiles....nothing like my VRS!

And if the VRS is good enough for loads of Police Forces to endorse them as effective Traffic Pusuit Cars, then that's good enough for me!

I do like that metallic blue colour too - lovely!

I'll give you an example of the Skoda thing...

A couple of years ago, I had to sell my 911 due to financial grief. My girlfriend loved my Porker, and going out in it for some spanking drives and fast Pistonheads runs.

I had a couple of grand to buy another car with after selling the Porsche and paying off the balance of the finance.

I picked up my VRS, and when she first saw it, she hated it. 'Urgh' she said - 'my Grandad's got a Skoda like this too! It's horrible!'

(Her Grandad's is a Diesel Octavia Estate by the way)

Anyway I had mine re-mapped, fitted uprated suspension and brakes, with braided brake lines, and new suspension bushes with uprated anti-roll bars.

The re-map alone gives it a whole new personality - it digs in, accelerates and pulls like a bd posessed right into the redline in every gear...

I took her out down one of our favourite A roads that we sometimes used to spank the Porsche down. And ok - of course, I admit that the Skoda is not quite up to haring down the road with quite the same level of commitment and performance as the Porsche - but I'll say this, it's not a million miles away!

Shortly after that - she looked across at me from the passenger seat with a face of increduluity - and she said 'bloody hell, it's like a flippin racing car in disguise, isn't it?'

She now loves the stealthy 'Grandad looks - with surprising performance' idea of my 5 door hatchback, lol!

Yours sounds brilliant, if I was back in September of last year I would be buying that Skoda now. I also kind of miss having a manual gearbox.
I knew I should have made a 'What Car' thread! biggrin

Found in the engine bay, down the side of the exhaust manifold! (next to a spark plug for scale)

I only got rid because every time I fixed something, an unrelated part would break in protest... it was getting silly. Especially since it would wait until the day before I was going on holiday, or someone's wedding, to break.

I've got a 3.2 manual Omega, which I love, but it's half a ton heavier than the vRS with the same horsepower.

We'll see what happens later in the year...

Ah bloody hell - doesn't sound like my experience with mine mate?

What year was yours / what mileage?

And what stuff broke for you?

It had done 180k, so it wasn't unexpected, just frustrating hehe

Usual things like coil packs, the alternator wire, but then the exhaust went, then the clutch pedal snapped the welds (and ended up bending the arm on the master cylinder), then it started throwing the boost pipe off the intercooler, and so on, and so forth.

I still want another one, with a few less miles on it...

I found out that when you take out the key of the E28, the electric windows will still work IF you have the driver side door open smile Very practical because I often turn of the engine on the way out when I realize that the window is not fully closed.

Also, the small tool compartment in the luggage room has spare light bulbs smile

On the 406 coupe, if you twist the electric mirror switch upside down it folds the mirrors in for you. Also If you put the wipers on first setting they are automatic when it rains.

Didnt find those out for a while!

I took my glove box out on the MX-5 yesterday and found a string hanging behind it.
Fitted, it turns out it's designed to stop it from dropping open too quickly.

Result. smile

I found out last night that with the door mirror adjustment joystick in the central position it adjusts the interior rear view mirror.

A little button in the glovebox that stops the boot release button on the keyfod from working. Owned the car since November, found the pesky button last week.

An old boss of mine had a succession of company cars (cavaliers) we went to visit somewhere and were traveliing back late and he pulled over to read a map to put the interior light on he opened the door

I asked why - he said that's what he'd done for every vauxhall cavalier he'd owned

I pointed out that he could alternatively pull out the light switch

He was amazed!!!!

I was gobsmacked that he'd owned several of them and never bothered to read the bloody handbook past page 2

After a year or so of owning my old Carlton, I needed to get something out of the boot... so walked over, pushed in the button, and it opened...

Cool story etc etc...

...except the car was still locked; I'd been leaving it, err, locked in all sorts of undesirable places, quite happy everything was secure, with the boot actually unlocked for the past year, oops.
