Hi Boobles,

Would very much appreciate your advice on the following:

Car is a 2009 Mercedes W211 with rear outer seats used for 3 year olds in Britax isofix seat (maybe Duo or Romer, not sure without checking)

Question though is would like to use rear middle seat for 7 year old. Space is restricted in this seat and would prefer high back with side protection if possible. (assume front passenger seat is in use too) Is anything available for this?

Kind regards,

Hijacker.
Hi,

Without actually seeing the car, it's very difficult to come up with any ideas for you.
I can't even find that car on our database so all I can suggest is try somewhere like Halfords or Mothercare who we give installation training to where they could try some in your car before you commit to buying.

Hi Boobles,

Many thanks for all your advise on PH, was after some help with my 3 year old.

She is taller and heavier than average (97cm and 17.5kg) and has started getting really uncomfortable in her stage 1. Id like to move her into a stage 2 and am looking at the Maxi-Cosi Rodi XR Forward Facing Group 2-3, with the high winged head rest.

Three questions...am I changing too soon, is this a good seat or should I go for an isofix solution?

Thanking you in advance.
(forgot to mention seat is going into a BMW X3).

Hi,

The minimum weight is 15kg or approx 4yrs old for these types of seats... I see no harm in looking at changing to the seat that you have mentioned as she is 17.5kg and tall enough to warrant this... The only thing you would have to do is try fitting the seat into the X3 to make sure it fits. Most retailers allow this before you commit to buying.....

I'm looking for some help with choosing a first car seat for our new addition due at the end of the month. We've been lent a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and the Easy Fix base which seemed great until I checked last night and their website says it won't fit my 2005 Audi S4 but would fit a 2005 Audi A4.

So I checked the Britax site and they made no distinction between an A4 and an S4 in their guide so now I'm confused about whether to proceed down the Maxi Cosi route - we were planning to get the Familyfix base to use with the Rear Facing seat and the Pearl forward facing as the next stage - or whether going for Britax might be the better option.

What would you suggest? Ideally it should also fit a 2005 Hyundai Coupe but not essential as the Maxi Cosi is listed as ok for the O/H but having different seats in the two cars just adds an extra bit of complication to an already confusing decision....

PS Just noticed some epic lurking there!!!

It becomes difficult to find one seat to fit multiple cars.... If the Maxi Cosi website states that that particular seat will not fit into your car, then it wont unfortunately. All you can really do is keep checking these "fit finder" sites & type in the details until you find what you are looking for. Failing that, Halfords & Mothercare (there are other shops) are trained by us & they are pretty good at finding seats to fit into specific cars.

My first thought is something like the Britax BabySafe Plus SHR........

That seems to be what the Britax site suggests, just not sure on how different the Recaro rear seats in the S4 are to the other A4 seats and so whether that will affect things.

Guess it's a trip to Mothercare then - hope they are better at fitting Child seats than delivering nursery furniturefurious

Hi,

Could you give me your opinion on the Mothercare 'Sport' cat seat.
We bought it on the recommendation of the staff & the reviews seemed good + it looked very comfortable for a little one aswell.
It seems fine so far as he's been in it 6 months now!
Car seat fits in a '04 Scenic.

Thanks

Does anyone know if there are any Group 2 seats which can be fitted using lap belts only? Thinking of getting an older car which only has lap belts, and want to make sure my kid will be safe.

here:

http://www.britax.co.uk/car-seats/car-seats/eclips...

from memory this is the only forward facing seat that can be installed using the lap belt only.

There are other options in that group. These are rearfacing seats. All of them with the exception of BeSafe can be installed with a lapbelt.

Since you´ll be buying an old car, you may get a car with long buckle stalks. You should avoid buckle crunch by all means. I can´t comment on the Eclipse as I have no experience with it. But I can comment on some of the rearfacing ones. There are some that are good for cars with long buckle stalks.

Britax Two Way Elite

Britax Hiway

Britax Maxway - no experience with this one, but very similar to the Hiway.

Maxi Cosi Mobi

I think the Eclipse is available in most babygear retailers. The rearfacing seats mentioned can be found at The In Car Safety Centre in Milton Keynes and Belfast. Or visit this place to find a retailer close to you www.rearfacing.co.uk

To be honest, if you are happy with the car seat & it fits properly & easy to use then you have bought the correct seat & there is nothing really I can say.

Thanks for your help, but these are all group *1* seats. I'm after group 2. Seems like they don't exist.

I do have a Plan B which involves my girlfriend sitting in the back, and my daughter up front. Hmm
