Where the modern day Howard Hughes when you need him.

This project really needs a passionate/eccentric billionaire to take it under their wing.
One of the guys who might have done this is more interested in pointy end up rather than pointy end sideways.

There are quite a few UK billionaires who could fund this from their petty cash. Dyson has £16.3bn, Ratcliffe £16bn, Bamford £6bn, Branson £5bn, etc.

They’re all too busy building space rockets.

I'd say its too far on the way/well known for the obvious suspects to be able to use it to further their ego. People would know they didn't invent it/come up with he idea design, 'just' opened their wallets. Hence less return for them. it needs someone more obscure/actually passionate about engineering to do it.

Must admit Radcliffe looks to be trying to spend his fortune as quickly as possible on any old rubbish so I'm surprised he hasn't stepped up.

As badly as I want to see a new LSR. I think the time taken to get this project to this point, shows that the LSR was over back in 1997 when Thrust SSC went supersonic, the work required to achieve that was huge, probably more than they knew about and the time, but they managed it. With improved systems, just how real the challenge of of supersonic in a car and the risk associated with it are *very* clear and I am not sure anybody wants to risk their image with that burden.

Sad, but at least if I am right, which I hope I am not, the final LSR rests with Great Britain.

A post has appeared on Facebook saying they’re basically still looking for sponsors/funding
They are actually looking to sell the entire outfit now.

There is some news from Bloodhound, sadly not of actual sponsorship.

They aim to make it "net carbon zero"

Why haven’t they given up? They’re not going to achieve sponsorship.

Because they aren't cave dwellers.

I was only wondering what happened to this project a few days ago. Last I heard they had done the higher speed testing in SA and had a new owner with funding, and just needed to strap a couple of rockets on to go for the record I thought?

Still got the signed Bloodhound SSC poster from Richard Noble at the Autosport show in 2009!

Surely they've already achieved that if it's not actually going anywhere!

I have got a bunch of Thrust2 memorabilia in the loft that came from an Uncle that was involved in the project. I have no idea what to do with it!

!
The new owner fulfilled his promise of getting it to SA for high speed testing.

And IIRC, he said all along to go for the LSR, there would need to be a backer? And then Covid hit.....

Pretty sure they were struggling for a backer long before covid hit. If this was electric / hydrogen / plant based I’m sure they wouldn’t have an issue finding a backer.

False.

What is required is either an oligarch willing to spluff serious money on this as a hobby, or something along the lines of Drive to Survive level of turnaround in interest by a new demographic, such as happened with young people/netflix/F1 recently.

What condition is it in? Unless they've done something more than just shove it into a corner and throw a dust sheet over it, then it's probably just scrap.
