The stripped, de-chromed race versions really do look good; the lack of bumpers removes the impression of pointy-ness/excess length and dropping the car stops the wings looking horribly over-sized. The look seems to also play-down the visual impact of A-pillar, which can only be good.

The orange lipstick is another thing entirely.

Walker and Hill still makes me laugh: it's just so ridiculous.

That is a brilliant article!
Never seen the M&W Hunt ads before, loved them.

The Shell advert is just awesome. That 60s/70s sound isn’t just...distilled perfection.

Great find, Thankyou!

That flat-12 at 0:53 is just magical.

Is Ferrari the only manufacturer to produce a flat-12 for a road car?

I can only think of Ferrari's and Churchill tanks that had a flat 12. And I don't think you can class the latter as a road car laugh

Interesting you went for the Churchill ahead of the 917.

The 917 is a race car (although I think a couple have been registered for the road), and you can legally drive a tank on the road. Or at least you could

Subaru did a, pretty bad, flat 12 for F1, or at least had someone do it for them. It ended up in the Jiotto Caspita (I had to google the name of that one as I couldn't remember where the ill-fated donk had ended up).

A chap on one of the model car threads collects obscure F1 cars and had found the Subaru engine'd one. That's excellent geekery.

Nor the C291.

Both awesome in their own ways!

Looking forward to getting home so I can hear the C291 on YouTube! Looks pretty incredible.

I forgot about the 917 as well, that is a pretty special machine. Such a shame Porsche never made a road going flat-12, you'd have thought if anyone could do it they can!

And I thought that mixing cross-plys and radials was a bad idea.

Didn't that Seen Through Glass Youtube guy drive a 917 in LA? Not sure if it was a real one or not though

Ah so that's where MB got the idea for rear wheel steering on the new S Class

I think it is very dependent on the context!

Ha, yes, very true.
