Windscreen Claims WILL Affect Your NCD

I've used Autoglass a few times now ...Eventually I got a stone chip at the edge of the glass, so it was replaced and that was done well too.
.
By replacing your glass because of a chip at the edge of the glass Autoglass have effectively ripped you off for the price of the excess and ripped your insurer off for the cost of an unnecessary screen. They are liars and con men. .
Repairs can be easily carried out around the edge of the screen. This type of con trick goes on every day and is the reason why Autoglass have so much money they have to hide it away in a tax haven in the Dutch Antilles!
Notwithstanding the resurrection, I see that the adverts are back on the television again!
Of course, they might have always been on as I dont watch a great deal and I dont pay attention to adverts, but I did notice one the other evening saying that a temperature change will make a chip crack and that 'they all do'.
What absolute fking nonsense!
How come these adverts havent been removed for their blstant lying? If the GT86 advert can be pulled because it dared to suggest that driving it might be fun, then surely an advert which is all about a lie shouldnt have a chance.
More fool the insurers for allowing this to develop - dont they realise that theyre in charge with a firm like Autoglass whose business would fold without them?

I have had the same chip in my windscreen for three years. It hasn't got bigger, smaller or turned into a crack. During these years I have cleared the windows on icy mornings with hot water and always left the engine idling to warm the car up. The engine hasn't blown up and the screen hasn't dropped out...not once. In short these ads and this general take on modern toughened safety glass are total BS that prey on people who don't have a clue. Do people really think that the same material that is used in a cheapo wine glass is what protects you in a vehicle that is subjected to 100mph+ debris?
I had a passenger door glass shatter overnite due to the severe cold/snow last year , checked my insurance and autoglass were the recommended repairer ,duly rang them and they sent someone out to sort it , guy climbed out his van with a hoover in hand , (good sign i thought ......a tidy workman ....i like that ) showed him over to the car so he could proceed , earlier i had had the idea that i wanted to take a few photo's before and after kind of stuff just incase their might have been problems , coming back out of the house with my camera in my hand , mr so called tidy workman had already plugged in his hoover from my open garage and was beavering away hoovering up the loose glass, he then stated pulling away the bigger pieces attached to the door slot , and i couldn,t believe what i saw him do , he poked and wiggled a 10 inch screw driver down the slot back and forth with the hoover in his other hand sucking up any cubes that happened to get flicked up by said screwdriver ,i took a few picks and mentioned to him ....you do realize there's speakers and electronics in there dont you , yeah i do this all the time mate ......now can i get on was the reply .............. a little perturbed i went in doors to make us both coffee , when the phone rang , it was autoglass , unfortunately there wasn't a glass available in the country so the man informed me , but they would make it safe and weatherproof and get one ordered via their system and get back in touch as to the fitting ,
Now its a rarish car that ive owned for quite some years and suppliers of parts are limited to a few main dealers and a few independants so i rang around , lo and behold first call to Marranello's came up trumphs both in availabilty and price , a Gransport door window for £38 plus vat ....... Jesus was shining on me that day , i then rang autoglass back and informed them so they arranged to have the glass delivered to their depot nearest to me
2 days later i get a call to bring the car in so they can install the glass, hours later i get another call to collect the car its all done ,
I go into reception, pay the required £60 and then get taken into the workshop to inspect and take the car away home ...hopefully , it looked pucker kind of how it was previous to the incident , so i tried to open the door and it wouldn't budge, tried a little harder , but knowing that as soon as you lift the handle the window should drop an inch i was hesistant as it wasn't dropping , eh oh alarm bells stated to go off in my head, explained to the tech who did it, who was trying to busy himself with his next job of the day that it wasn't doing what it should and showed him how the other side was working fine
2nd attempt proved fruitless aswell, except this time he had adjusted the glass so far down that the door would open but not go back up and seal against the rubber i also noticed he had completely destroyed the sound deadning and weather membrane and hadn't replaced with new
I wasn't happy to say the least , told them to stop and rang my insurers , after several further phonecalls it was decided that autoglass were to hand over the job to Marranello's pay for the transportation of the car there and back and pay for the necessary parts to return the car to its proper state
2 days later my car is returned from Marranello's on the back of a covered trailer, and all is fine , she's been valeted and everthing works as it should , on the passenger seat is a copy of their bill £1175.00 , new window mechanism microswitch , new sound deadning and weather membrane , and new speaker , re install passenger glass and replace missing bolts
So it seems that several of their processes were well below standard , the guy wiggling the 10 inch screw driver had obviously destroyed the microswitch and speaker , and the 2nd installer not only missed out some bolts but failed to make sure the window operated like it should before handing back the car ...........basic stuff really
I know Maserati's are specialist cars but their not rocket science, it just takes a bit of thought and care which autoglass seem to lack in spades, what should have been an easy Cheap fix for them turned out to be an expensive one , as the insurer only gave them £105 towards the bill

Royal sun alliance via A plan are now happy and have agreed that any further problems are dealt with via a Maserati specialist either independant or Main dealer , shortly after that side window went the main screen started to crack in the top right corner, all sorted straight away via H R Owen , who provided me with a Alfa Mito curtasy car for 2 days whilst it was being done, quite painless and organised as it should have been first time round ,complete with a set of photo's before during and after with the invoice to show how they protected the leather dash and interior

Holy thread ressurection batman!
On a plus side... Equity Red Star are my insurers and my NCD isn't affected by the Windscreen replacement.. So.. Two fingers to the OPs source!

Your contribution (for a glass claim) will be £50.00 if you do as you're told, or £100.00 if you're a maverick renegade.
Make a claim and your premium might go up.
(not all do, but there's a strong suggestion/trend that after making such a claim, it could).

Ive only ever had to get one screen replaced in 20 years of driving, and thankfully it was a painless experience.
Im with Admiral who use National Windscreens, I got it fitted at their deport in Northampton and it ended being fitted by someone who posts on here (and maybe already in this thread?!)
And yes, they did a top job

I suspect that on most run of the mill metal , autoglass should be able to provide a good service ( although by some of the threads it makes one wonder ) over the past few years i have put several cars in bodyshops for full repsrays , last couple ive paid seperately to have all the fixed glass taken out and re-fitted , front and rear screens plus 2 rear side windows for £175 cash , perfect jobs each time , tho i was there to make sure the interiors were taped and covered, surprising how even hoovering leather with plastic pipe can mark it if your not careful

AFAIK, 'they' don't do much bodyshop work, if any at all?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
