Good write up.

I wouldn't really fit in my 911 (6'7") if I hadn't made custom seat brackets etc. Given how much you'd have to pay for a Miura wouldn't something like that have been possible?

Just thinking tonight, that if I had bought this car...

I think I could have doubled my money or maybe better.

The rose tinted spectacles are strong in this one...

But if you owned it, you might not want to be selling it!

Can't think what to say ... what a well written piece, of a lifelong motoring obsession ultimately turning into a tragedy. In a way I am pleased that it's unlikely that I will ever have the money to have my dreams of Miura ownership shattered in the same way.

(aren't you tempted to buy it anyway, just to look at it?)
Surely not. True PH'ers buy rare supercars and properly use them. Offroading through fields ...

Had a similar "real world" experience searching for a X19 then an esprit.

It's rare that I find any reason to be thankful I have short legs...I just need the cash now!

Must be even worse when there is a video of a guy who is 2" taller getting in one with no issues even his 3" tall mop of hair doesn't seem to touch the roof. (clever editing going on?)

You could always get it for the investment and beauty of the thing and then perhaps workout a solution over time? (no idea if there is one)

Gorgeous car.

Just sitting in an airport, about to fly to Italy and the memory of this trip came back to me. What might have been...

Don't. 4 years ago I almost bought a Ferrari 575 SuperAmerica, but thought it was "a bit pricey" at £90k.

Idiot.

I remember your solace at the time Harry.

The flip side is that the current market makes no sense to me and if I had bought it, I would be totally torn about what to do with it. It's a million pound car now.

I think I actually went into shock. I got taken out in the car, as a sobbing wreck in the passenger seat (inwardly of course, on the outside I was unshaven and shouting heroic expletives at the driver) but I can genuinely tell you nothing about what it was like.
Lmao, a sobbing wreck? This was a joke right?

Writer exaggerates emotions to make a point... can't be a new concept to you.

It was a 30 year effort to get there and if didn't come off. Although I am more sanguine about it now. I felt unjustifiably wronged at the time. Such is the life of the petrolhead. Such is life with the benefit of hindsight.

What bit of "inwardly of course" did you not get?

WFTWFT - I remember reading this when you first posted it. Helluva gamut of emotions!

I notice you didn't answer one of the earlier questions of "would you have bought it if you fitted?" Now before you answer, make sure you don't answer with hindsight wink

I read it as him going for the sole purpose of buying the car i.e. it was a done-deal.
OP, how much were they at the time vs now?

I had a very similar issue, but mine was only traveling within the UK, the dealer who we have bought off before even too foam out of the seat, shims on the seat bolts .... and I still couldn't fit in !!

Go and buy an 250swb instead, you should fit in one of these ( no idea of current price but they were the same about 4 years ago) !!!

I feel your pain !!!!

I had pre-authorised the payment. It was basically a done deal as far I was concerned. It was... unbelievably... €270k

Good to see you still have the Lancia.
I remember you were heavily involved with Evocorner many years ago.

I feel the OP's pain, reminds me of the time I nearly bought a ropey £500 MGF for the summer and all I could see was the windscreen surround whatever I did with the seat, it is tough to come back from crushing disappointment of that magnitude, I had wanted one ever since the owner had said I could have it for £500, literally minutes dreaming of the beige half leather, BRG (with scabs and everything ) paint and the legendary push me pull you styling with not one but two Metros underneath, I was denied the unbridled joy of replacing the Head Gasket and unleashing every one of however many of its original 120 hp were left.
