Not sure what you are saying exactly, the video you posted is just a bunch of cars in a tunnel so you can't tell what's what.

Anyway it's all irrelevant because it's very clear I was wrong and the old Italian with the cool doors is easily the best sounding. To my ears it's closely followed by the 512 but that doesn't sound as nice and loses on another technicality as well.

Technically it is a V12, a 180° V12, as it isn't a 'boxer' engine.

A flat 12 with connecting rods sharing a crank journal, therefore without oposing pistons 'boxing', is technically a 180° V, despite the lack of a 'V'.

A 'flat' engine is not always a 'boxer' engine.

Anyway, who cares, the Ferrari 12 sounds great!

I would be tempted to nominate the McLaren F1's V12, on the strength of just about every bit of audio I've ever heard of it, however I've yet to hear one in the real world.

I have however been subjected to full aural assault in the passenger seat of a roofless F50. Awesome. It makes every hair stand up on end, you can feel its power vibrating your body through the seat and the noise and headlong shove of it being given the beans through the first four gears just makes you laugh like an absolute lunatic. Truly a fantastic experience, recommended to anyone with even the tiniest amount of petrol in their veins.

So began a lifelong obsession with 12 cylinder engines in all their glorious forms. Although as a few have made it into cars, the Rolls Royce Merlin could just about squeeze a nomination, however they never get to sound as they do in their most natural habitat. That to me is simply the finest noise made by any internal combustion engine.
