I've been looking at E39 530d returning 34/38mpg or E46 330d returning 45+
both hard to find with on manual, E46 04+ I think id the one go go for but will take you over budge, for 6K you should be able to get an 02/03 which have less bhp and more engine issue (for what I was told)
530d return less mpg but can be bought for 4/5K in good conditions,again, manual in sport trims are hardto find
