Did they ever actually make any Conaughts? They were meant to have a 2.0 V10, I seem to remember.

Smallest - Audi 100 1.9 litre
Largest - Chevrolet Colorado/Isuzu i-Series/Hummer H3/GMC Canyon all use the same 3.7 litre 5 cylinder
If we're allowing buses & trucks, I give you the Gardner 5LXCT fitted to some Leyland buses (er, 1 from new, aftermarket on some more apparently). Can't find exact capacity, but the 5LW was 7 litres, so probably the same block but with a turbo fitted.

Honda Gold Wing had a 1500 flat six in its later incarnations (now 1800 IIRC).

BRM racing car from the 50's had a 1.5 litre supercharged V16, around 600 bhp at 12,000 rpm.

Reliable? Er, no.

a 708cc turbocharged cappuccino that when the turbo is on full boost its like "riding a bull on crack" thanks to 135hp at the rear wheels. Doesnt sound a lot but when your in a car that's got a 2m wheel base and is only 1.3m wide has a kerb weight of 725kg that package really starts to make sense.
This is the most PH thing I've read all day.

Sounds brilliant, tbh. Does it try to kill you at every available opportunity?

Far from being mainstream production but ive always been impressed with it, the 8 cylinder in-line 1.5L supercharged engines that Alfa Romeo made in the 1950s for F1 cars was an astonishing bit of machinery.

How about a 500cc pseudo-V8 in the Honda NR500:
"Honda designed a 32 valve V8 with four pairs of linked combustion chambers. This then evolved into an innovative engine with four oval-shaped cylinders. The oval cylinders allowed room for 32 valves and eight spark plugs, the same as that of an eight-cylinder engine while staying within the four cylinder racing rules limit of the time".

Hard to visualise?

My father used to have a 4-cylinder 125cc motorbike, Honda I think. Pistons were coin sized.

Not mainstream, but the Bentley 4 1/2 litre of the 20s/30s had a 4.5 litre 4 cylinder, 16 valves too. Massively long stroke as well iirc.

Hi

The smallest true V8 I can think of is the Morbidelli which was 847cc. Few built, but didn't quite make production.

Largest 4 cylinder I can think of was the Lancia Gamma which was 2.5L.

Laverda built a few 996cc V6 race bikes and kept threatening to put them into production.

All the best

Keith

I remember these from the days of the Barleylands shows in Essex, these engines shake the whole tractor up and down.
