The trendy way of extracting gas - 'fracking' - can cause seismic problems, so these fellas are probably on overtime big-style I reckon

so how come this things have to be so huge?

Is it simply cos the equipment they carry is big and heavy, and they need to get to hard to reach places?
or is it something more technical like they need to be heavy enough to not pick up false readings from small movements that would affect a smaller lighter vehicle?

The vibe trucks send shock waves down into the ground then special geo-phone receivers on the ground measure the time it takes for the seismic waves to bounce back.

Geologists use the resulting data to work out what sorts of structures are below the earth's surface.
