hmmm ...could not locate the "pass me a bucket" icon. On the basis that no human with eye lids that can open would buy one it will have rarity value. Future classic for all the wrong reasons.

I've seen a few of these in real life and I think they loook quite good. This sounds exciting too, don't think imo that they're diluting the brand by putting M on it, remember the m535i, m635csi etc. Everyone loves them.

Does it come with a supply of paper bags resplendent in Motorsport colours?

A turd sprinkled with anti-glitter, albeit most likely a fairly good to drive turd.

M635csi was an M car funnily enough. Proper M88 Motorsport engine.

The new 1er looks great in the metal. Pics don't do it justice at all.

Some tacky plastics on the exterior of the base models but the interiors are a big improvement.

M-nonsense kit looks really cool.

Above all you just know it will drive really well.

Looks are very subjective - having seen a few in the wild, they're exactly as ugly as expected IMO. Smearing lippy on a pig doesn't work, goer or not.

Saw the pics of the new '1', thought 'Yuk!!'. Have seen them in the flesh and for some bizarre reason I don't mind them so much. Full of contradictions, though.

Fat, but seems better proportioned than the old version.

Some quite strange styling, but looks better than the old '1' or new '3'. To my eye, anyroad.

I would even consider one if I had the dosh. Perhaps a visit to Specsavers is needed!

What is the alternative though? A boring Golf or dull as A3....

I like it, it's different.

Well I like the looks, as always the standard spec 1 Series always looks a little funny, as you climb the range/trim levels they look better. IMHO.

I just find it quite funny that BMW come out with a 300bhp hatch and all everyone can do is whinge and complain at the stickers.

I have no problem with these M-lite cars, gives a bit of variety and alternative from the usual diesels most 1 Series leave the factory with.

Will keep my 130i and spend my spare cash on new tyres and a Quaiffe LSD in the summer.

The most negative thread in a long time - but I'm forgetting myself... This is Pistonheads, so why should anyone here like a RWD hot hatchback that produces over 300BHP, fettled by one of the worlds most recognised performance tuning divisions..?

Love or hate the styling, it does not look like anything else on the road, which is surely a good thing given how many hatches are so alike, and at the present time, at least when you buy a BMW you are not shelling out for technology that you could find in other platforms for a lot less money, unlike Audi.

I don't understand the negativity either... I'm biased though having just ordered a 125d. I think they do look good in the flesh albeit slightly quirky, but that's a good thing IMHO. Covered 500 miles in a demonstrator 116d one weekend and thought it was extremely good.

An homage to the 2002 turbo; small, turbocharged, RWD, white with M graphics. This will surely be the coolest thing going for those in their early - mid 20s with some money to spend on the ultimate hot hatch.
The 1M might've been, with a few extra pounds. This cleary isn't.
It's just.. YUK!

What colour have you gone for?

Looking at the performance figures for the 125d its going on the shortlist to replace the golf with later in the year and will be giving it serious consideration myself. However whilst i can forgive it looking the spit of a Polo from the rear, the front is another matter!
Was awaiting the M sport treatment in the hope that it would give the looks the silver bullet they needed and whilst its a definate improvement, its aesthetics are still, er "difficult."

I'm all for individuality and really want to like it, but no matter what colour choice you try using the configurator that front really doesn't get much better...

However i'm going to keep trying to convince myself as it makes such a good case for itself on paper, and whilst i haven't driven one yet am in no doubt that it will be pretty darn good.

How much more do they want to dilute the M brand?

Small RWD 300+ bhp, not worthy of an M-badge? hmmmm....

It's going to be a hooligan tool. I'd love to have a shot of one.
Although not the prettiest I'm sure the looks will grow on me.
With a 1M style wheel arch kit it would look awesome.

The sad thing is it would take so little for that front end to look pretty nice. If you'll all forgive the weak photoshop work here but:

This is so horrendously UGLY I cannot believe BMW is getting away with this. And now they present an M pastiche with the wellknown racing colours???

They must be kidding...

This thing does not belong here!

The cars you've chosen aren't exactly beautiful are they? Purposeful, yes. Iconic, yes. Fierce, yes. Attractive, or non-ugly? No!
