Popular thinking is that soft tops present a security vulnerability, but when the satnav was stolen from my Z4 hire car they just smashed the passenger window.

bds biggrin

Unless it's raining then generally I will have the roof down, not because I'm a show off or an attention seeker but purely because I enjoy it driving

Took a trip down to London town back in January and the drive from Richmond > Chelsea > Westminster > Trafalgar > The Mall was so much more enjoyable on a Sunday evening than if it had been in a tin-top.

I've also driven it in the worst of the winter last year and with heated seats and a nuclear reactor for a heater it's just as toasty as being inside a normal car, albeit wearing a hat!

Drove my spitfire in light misty type rain once, took it to a meet forgot to put the roof up, came back wet through. Thought id just dry out the bits of the dash that were wet and the seats best i could, thought to hell with putting the hood up. One of the strangest and fun moments of motoring has to be driving open top in the rain, at 60mph, its cold but you dont care, the sound and the feeling just knowing you can do it.

Hard to explain but if you've done it, you'll understand that with a tonaeu a wet afternoon could be very fun, although the day after you'll be half dying.

What was unusual that day is that it was warm enough not to need a hat... I've been out roofless loads of times this winter. Nothing like a crisp winter day with the roof off!

I will never own anything but a convertible from now on.....

However I am now very nervous driving in some areas of the city with the roof down.

I was attacked by a mob of feral teens last year and recently there has been a sudden dramatic increase in car and motorbike hi-jackings around my neck of the woods. So the roof stays up until i'm out of town.

You don't feel the cold at all with the heater on and the seats warmed. On a sunny day in the countryside it's just brilliant.

Then again a 6IL soundtrack and 340BHP do add to the overal effect.
