I know we all love our cars, but seriously you'd risk a potentially life changing back/neck problem for the sake of your car!

I'd be more than happy to have the roof off if it removed any risk.

Having the roof cut off your P&J that you've spent many thousands of miles in and quite possibly spent many thousands of pounds on her making her individual and perfectly suited to you?
I know that at the very least, it'd be an extremely hard decision to make, at least it would be for me.

What a very silly thing to say. Imagine the world of st that would come to the coppers/fire brigade if some silly bint who was making a big deal out of some minor whiplash 'injured' herself further because the fire people wouldn't cut the top off the car.

Doesn't surprise me at all, I'm afraid, that this is what they do.
What did they do before the jaws of life were invented? Hours with a hacksaw of get them out another way?

Without a shadow of a doubt I'd "risk it" yes

But I'm not a complete fanny...

Good lord, with all these 'whiplash this', 'jaws of life that' being thrown about, it really makes you think about offering people a seat if you stop at a scene, which seems awful. I was passenger in a car where my side and passenger side front hit a crash barrier at around 60mph. Apart from being very shaken, a sore nose, singed thumb and a leg that felt like it was on fire through severe bruising I was okay, hobbling around the scene. No Ambulance, no Paramedics, just several traffic units. We were advised to get checked out at the Hospital, so we did. 'My' Doctor asked if my neck felt stiff at all, or if it ached, I told her it didn't and rolled my head around. She jumped up and told me not to do that and that I'd probably hurt in the morning, sure enough, next morning I could barely get out of bed and had issues with that as well as not being able to turn my head for almost a week. What I found slightly shocking was that the appointment card my mate got for having his burn re-dressed had adverts for several claims companies on the back!!
I mean, boo-hoo I had a nasty limp and a fecking sore neck for a while..! irked

My boyfriend rolled his car over a ditch, then a fence and into a field in middle if nowhere.
Managed to get out and call me to pick him up. Apart from a sting from a nettle he was fine.

In these circumstances I don't think they let you make the decision.

If the roof has to get cut from your car, who is liable for the cost?

No, where someones genuinely injured and needs to be treated with care, most decent people would take that on the chin. Its the people who complain of mild discomfort but who arent really injured or who are lying in order to facilitate a spurious claim, leading to peoples cars being destroyed that get peoples goat.

As an aside - is it me or are there some absolute bargains to be had on that site? Some of the cosmetic only ones could easily be sorted without too much expense!

Really? I thought that the days of bargain salvage were long passed.

It's an auction site, they sell on the day for a lot more than it first appears, then there's the auction fees. Most buyers appear to be from other countries. Where ringing is more common and the cars wont show up as being written off. Most of the ones I've seen go are not viable for repair by the time you buy it, pay the fees, transport, fix, mot, tax etc.

Maybe the police should invest in some Focus CCs...
I know they are pretty slow at turning up sometimes.... but I'd rather they got there a little late rather than next week!

We sell a lot of cars as repairable salvage, but I think a good half of them are exported and broken for parts.

This.

My brother hit someone at the weekend. Well 'touched' rather than hit to be precise, absolutely zero damage to either car and he was going less than walking pace. His car is much smaller than the other car too.

Female passenger is immediately holding her neck and since proclaims to have 'severe' whiplash.

Some people are clearly so fragile they shouldn't be out and about at all.
I had this about 18 months back.

Pulling out of a junction & the guy in front inexplicably slammed on. I nudged him at less than 5mph, resulting in a scuffed rear bumper for him & a cracked front bumper & broken bracket on the headlight of my car. Straight away he was out of the car holding his neck banging on about it being sore.

We exchanged details, did all the insurance stuff (he insisted on it) & that was it.

8 months later when renewing my insurance I mentioned the claim & said it probably cost around £1k in total. Girl on the phone went away for a minute, before coming back to tell me my premium was going to be higher than she'd first quoted as the total cost of the accident was actually £12k!

She wasn't for giving me any more info but I can only assume the money went towards a holiday in Blackpool & some more stick on chrome tat for his Rover 75 as a "reward" for the horrific injuries he suffered in his high speed crash.

Tosser.

So in the situation where an "injured" person has sat in the car of a witness not involved in the accident, and the roof gets cut off...
I can imagine the insurance co might try to slime their way out of that one as you "allowed" it to happen.

Oh I completely agree.
To be honest, if the crash was bad enough to put you in such a position then the car is probably going to be written off anyway, thus saving you the trouble.

Usually just spot welded on. I helped change 2 civics from panoramic sunroofs to normal roofs not to long ago.
