My mum had one of those, I'm pretty sure the bumpers were made from egg shells, even patent parts were better quality.

Back on topic though, was following a chap in a beige MK3 Vauxhall Cavalier hatchback the other day, looked utterly soul destroying.

Styled with a ruler with the handling of the Titanic. Hateful, hateful things.

This one certainly looks and sounds depressing, despite its V8 engine

I like those old Volvo's. Not beautiful by any means but they have a strong identity and pleasing no-nonsense functionality to them.

One of things I'm not keen on is the box shape front wheel arch, why it's squared at the front at not at the back I'm not sure, you'd think it would be t'other way round? There are some cars I like with squared arches, but I've always thought an arc the superior form.

All golfs, but the mk2, 3 and 4 in particular. Stop spending money on them and proclaiming them to be reliable and scrap them like any other car.

Hateful to drive and travel in, their image only stems from the owners who have to talk about how good they are to explain the cash they spunked on their car.

Sorry, I really like those old square Volvos. Particularly the BTCC car and the lemon yellow T-5R!

My nomination for depressing vehicles are these:

Austin Montego, this one looking resplendent in Jewish Racing Gold. The estate is possibly even more depressing to look at.

Vauxhall Nova saloon. Just look at it! What a turd.

Driving this model of Transit in 2012 must mean one of only three things: a) you're a ; b) you're st builder; or c) both.

Dark green Montegos used to be standard-issue MoD/Army staff cars. My Dad, or mainly his driver I suppose, got through them at the rate of one every nine months to a year. At least one of them had a conrod exit sideways through the engine block on the M4. They had Mondeos after they ran out of Montegos.

Hard to explain why but the Vauxhall Cavalier makes me angry not sad. Like I need to punch something when I see one

I know it's a dick move to check peoples garage when they say things like this but...why didn't you buy a sports car or one that stands out from the crowd.

I agree that most cars are pretty dull. Modern ones probably more so.
Depends what you want. The M5 touring doesn't stand out from the crowd really and in a way it's stealthy as hell but goes like thunder and will take on even Ferrari's and the best Porkers.

I am not a fan of TVR's or MX5's at all and after driving the M5 everything is just meh really.

Most cars on the road unless they are top of the range flagship models like RS's, AMG's, Msports, STi's, EVO's etc are just dull MOR carp that would make me slit my wrists if I had to own.

I have had sports cars like the Elise, RX8, EVO, Scooby which whilst good and all an experience do nothing at all for me now. I see them as ten a penny.

These days I find I have very little interest in owning the top of the range versions of mundane cars - just seems a bit ordinary. (I suppose the Saab could be considered such a thing, but that's just a practical runabout)

All driven by knuckle dragging inbred chavs.

I have an urge to buy a Montego, ideally in British Racing Green

In the spirit of the thread (old cars), the most depressing - I'm afraid - are for me British:

A40 Farina
Allegro
Marina
Princess
Ital
Viva
Plastic bumper MG's

Utterly miserable, the lot of them, and reek trade union.

Just how sad and depressed do you have to be to buy a G-Whizz. The people I see driving them look so miserable, I feel sad for them as well. They are not saving the planet either so a dead loss all round!,
