Hang on, there wasn't a 1.8 VTS available in England. Was it a VTR or Irish etc?

Nope, its UK. Thats what caught me out. I knew there was the Irish ones, but didn't know they were here too. It's right at the end of the Phase 1, registered 01/01/01, so maybe they "upspeced" it to get rid (Citroen)

Nearly did similar..

Back when I was 22 (excuse in early) I test drove a Rover Coupe "Turbo". It totally underwhelmed me and felt slower than the Fiesta RS 1800 I was planning to trade in. I had a look under the bonnet, but nothing stood out as being amiss.

Thankfully I didnt buy it and phoned the dealer the next day asking if they were sure it was the turbo version. "hold on we'll go and check"......"no, sorry its an N/A 2 litre"

Phew!

I'm guessing you didn't open the bonnet then? The XU10J4RS engine is quite obvious as I'm sure you know! That really is an odd combination though. If you have any pictures, I'd be interested to see it.

I know. Its so obvious now, I looked at the engine but it didn't register.

I hope he takes it back, or somebody wants a cheap, reliable run around for a bit!

If it helps, I took my previous TVR Tuscan to an Indy and asked them to check why the air con wasnt working.
After a short inspection they advised me they it didnt have air con.

I had the 216 GTI Twincam version aswell in the late 90's before the Fiesta. Put about 30k on it and cost me £1200 to insure the first year. Them were the days cloud9

Always wanted an RS1800 when I was younger. This particular Rover was bought for £200 on eBay when the Xsara shown above was buggered!

Seems like a clear case of misrepresentation to me. There isn't a 1.8 VTS - it's a VTR. If it was sold as a VTS its refund time.

Ah well. Good thread anyway. I like the Xsara vts because it's such an unknown. Haven't driven one but have driven the 306 which is, of course, memorably fantastic. And I thought it was going to be terrible. I also found the 19 to be a surprisingly good steer in Boggo form. I really really though that one was going to be terrible.
