Although they do sell >60,000 four doored, high margin, cars every year.
And that's >60,000 extremely ugly four doored, high margin, cars; which presumably makes it even more impressive. smile

I do think that people still have to "warm up" to a porsche family car.
I'd expect sales to rise steadily for the Panamera.

I think the Panamera has been a bit of a sales flop for them to be honest.
Not true ! Just because the UK hasn't bought them in numbers doesn't mean the rest of the world has not.

In major markets across North America and Asia the Panamera sells well. This car and the Cayenne are doing very nicely for Porsche thank you.

Personally, I like them a lot.

And I love the idea of a shooting brake. I often want to take the dogs with me, and I am not alone in that.

Don't underestimate the number of people who have several cars, also have dogs, like to have space to carry stuff and sometimes want to carry their stuff with them when they go for a drive.

It is a market fast Audi's and AMG Mercs have done well with. Don't see why Porsche shouldn't have a crack at it too.

I know, we've covered that already and I mentioned how many I saw in Asia last year. My original post was about the UK only.

Do you have shares in Porsche or something?

It does seem that the bigger, uglier, and worse to drive a Porsche is the higher the sales and profit Porsche make from it.

I think this is because very few people want to drive a sports-car/GT, but many people want the image associated with a sports-car/GT.

The same could be said of BMW, Audi & Mercedes, not really sure what your point is? As for "worse to drive" really? I find it hard to fault the Panamera, what spec Panamera have you driven out of interest?

I really don't understand the current hype over shooting brake 'super saloons', particularly with the Panamera... It just doesn't seem right, like the Cygnet and the array of 4x4's on the arise from Aston, Maserati and the like...

It's a shame in my opinon...

I definitely see more Panameras than 911s made since the Panamera was released. But massively more Boxsters than either.

IIRC that website tells you how many are taxed not how many are sold the 911 has been for sale for over 49 years the Panamera for 3.

The Panamera and Cayenne are currently Porsche's best selling cars globally.

I did a quick sketch of a Panamera with the boot from a Cayenne on and I think it looks pretty good, but I am ready to be shot down in flames.
Hmmm, I'm seeing a shades of the old Impreza wagon going on there. Me likey.

Nah, just offering a bit of balance. The Panamera is a well made, very well designed car. I have never understood the negativity toward it. I saw a black Turbo the other day, and it looked terrific IMO.

I am bewildered that the new Merc CLS shooting brake is not being pilloried and ridiculed for its appearance, while the Panamera seems to get a lot of flack. The new CLS is a proper munter to my eyes, with the Panamera being much better looking.

I don't understand the negativity toward the Panamera at all.

All cars that are on the road will have to be taxed whether they were bought 30years ago or 1 year ago.

Hence the site only tells you "how many are left" not "how many have been sold"

The only time the site indicates the sales of new cars is in the first year of a models release, after that it's a rolled up number.

As an example in Quarter 1 2012 36,702 911's were taxed that's the result of 49 years worth of sales, not the Quarters!

Edited to add there is a tab relating to new car registrations. paperbag
