RE: Spotted: Datsun 240Z

Those cars are gorgeous! I'm not sure when I started noticing them, but it might be when I started viewing 'Wangan Midnight' (Japanese anime, bit like Initial D, although I liked Initial D alot better).
They are quite rare tho', and getting rather expensive. There's a lot more choice/availability in the States, AFAIK.

Jeez back in about 2007 you could pick a cracking one of these up for £2-3k, I don't know where that extra 1 at the front suddenly sprouted from in the last 5 years, I would like to own one but for that price I can think of more desirable metal really!
You couldn't buy a good one for that price 5 years ago, maybe one hiding its filler. What other classic for the same cash would you get?
I posted a thread a few weeks ago of a car I spotted in Portland in the US. I wasnt sure what it was and there was some disagreement as to what it was.
Very nice all the same.
Sorry about the link but my photo uplod doesnt want to work.

I don't think they are at all Mustang to drive, they have a lot more poise and less grunt. They feel more E-type.

Exactly. First time I have heard of the Mustang analogy. I remember it as more based on a Healey and was more a competitor to Porche at the time.Simon
At the time Datsun still had quite a bit of Austin DNA outlook in its cars.

This pulled into my local petrol station a while back. It stopped us in our tracks and we just stared (and took a photo)
Beautiful
That car's nickname is Growler - well known in the Z Club, owned by a guy called Mike in West Yorkshire. The black and gold does indeed work great as others have commented.Beautiful
For those who said they'd prefer a more Japanese treatment to the slightly Americanized look of the car for sale, here's my Z - a genuine Japanese market '71 Nissan Fairlady Z-L:
There's actually a recent photo of it on the road (driving through Alderley Edge) in the Northwest region forum Spotted thread.
There are some great looking 240z's in this thread, just a pity the subject matter isn't one of them. Candy apple paint, slot mags and oversize white letter tyres, all remind me of the people who used to own them in the late 70's early 80's. Wannabe Corvette drivers, that had graduated from mk1 Capris but couldn't afford a mk3.
Which brings me to the linked ad for that 3000e,I wonder how that missed out on the candy paint, fur seats and hideous slot mags period of its life,I once scrapped a pretty solid 3.0GXL just for its headlights so I'm as responsible as anyone for the shortage and hence value of survivors.if I had the space( and a spare ten grand) I'd rather invest in that than a customised Datsun, although the 240z I drove 30 years ago was a much tighter drive than any Capri I've ever driven.

Now as a contrast, compare that to the downright aggression, brashness and vulgarity displayed by the German brands currently.
