Fuel price changes whilst driving.

2001 - 77.9p/litre. Wow, basically doubled over the last 10 years. House prices have quadrupoled.
Salaries on the other hand have not kept up. If I was doing the same job today, 10 years ago I would have been earning 85% of my salary today according to an old 2002 salary survey I've dug out!

Yes, when I was 18, I was paying 53p per litre fuel, bought by first house (very large 2 bed semi in East Anglia) for £27,000 and my salary was £22,000 per year.Salaries on the other hand have not kept up. Now that house is worth £165,000, that same salary would be around £27,000 and fuel is £1.34 per litre. RIDICULOUS!!!
When I first passed in 2001 it was around 73.9p a litre IIRC. It then went up a bit but dropped down to 67.9p over the winter 2001/02.
In terms of percentage rises though it's small potatoes compared to in the USA because of the amount of tax we pay. I remember it being 99.9c per (US) gallon in Florida in 2002, now it's more like $3.69 so well over three times as much! Still nothing compared to what we pay but imagine the impact that fuel prices tripling in 10 years have had on household budgets over there!

38 pence, then the price of petrol went up, this meant about 2 years after I passed my test I bought a 2.8i Capri, petrol was approaching £2 a gallon so the price of them tumbled.
It is interesting to note when I put 40 quid in my car for my weekly commute it would have been 25 quid when I first bought it, about 3 years ago, petrol is 128 where I am.

Yep, and the number of old and new gas guzzlers on the road over there, not everyone can afford a hybrid or to buy a new car.In terms of percentage rises though it's small potatoes compared to in the USA because of the amount of tax we pay. I was living over there when Katrina struck and sent prices through the roof, there was complete panic and fuel hoarding going on. Still, it went down slightly afterwards and would cost me about £25 to brim my Chevelle.
