It's a major sticking point for me.

I've been looking for a 335i for over three months, but I just can't find one in the right colour!

5 have met the right spec but in boring colours.

Wraps and resprays are bad news for resale because at best the colour doesn't match the V5 and at worst you look like an idiot who's trying to hide damage.
If you change your cars colour you're obliged to change the V5. Im not aware it shows any record of previous colours, just the current one so thats irrelevant.
Does that apply to wraps?
(I thought they weren't a permanent colour change, so DVLA didn't have to be informed?)

It's important to a point.

Do you think the better spec will be nice to have over the time you will own the car?
If you want, you can always get the car wrapped to your favourite colour from the range at any time you like.

Buy the car with the better spec and get it wrapped.

However the dealer has offered almost the same price on a much higher specced ex-demo car with a mere 300 miles in it. It'll be a £6k saving.
What you mean is that they are selling you a per-registered Volvo with an extra £6k of options and / or a larger thirsty engine for the same price as the new one you wanted in the first place. Factor in that they can claim the VAT back on a per-registered car. The better deal would be to buy a per-registered car of the spec you actually want with a £6k saving.

At a guess, I'd say between £1500-2k. OP, I'd rather pocket the 6k, you'll be getting a better specced car, and the 'misty blue' don't look that bad (in my eyes, at least). If the colour does bother you that much, and you can get a decent quote to get it wrapped (under 2k), then go for it.
But there is no 6k saved.

Car A has 6k worth of extras but is blue
Car B is spec and colour chosen by the OP

They are both near enough the same price.
There is no 6k left over for a wrap

The car you order is new, the other is ex-demo so will be classed as a used car, so you are not saving anything over list price, what you are doing is possibly saving `x` amount against the price of a used one.Look up the price of used one`s not new one`s.

Oh and colour does make a difference, I like the vx line insignia in red, or white but think it looks awful in silver or black.

You're absolutely right, I was using 'man maths' to get the additional toys which are options that make the ownership that bit more comfortable.

Maybe one way to look at it is; take this car off our hands instead and to compensate for the 300 miles and colour we'll give you £6k of options that make the car quite nice.

My dad went with £5k in his back pocket (in 1983) to all the FORD dealers in the Northwest saying "I want a NEW 1.6 Sierra estate in any colour in any spec, but I need it this week. what can you do"

We spent the next 10 years with a beige base model, with no front headrests, no rear seat belts, no radio, but hey a MOCCA dashboard (that cracked). My sister and I learnt to drive in it (me sideways mostly). My sister was given it in 1990 with 140K on the clock and she took it to 170K before selling it to a 'friend' for £500. I learnt to weld when the front end showed lots of rust behind the bumper.

All I can say is that he got it about £1000 less than list price, but I now have a hatred of dark brown dash boards.

I say any colour as long as it's cheap.

I got a price from drivethedeal.com and the dealer was £1500 off their price (DtD was a £3k discount!), I negotiated them to a £2k discount. They wouldn't go any better and whilst they are keen to do a deal, they couldn't afford to go that far.

As much as the DtD price is tempting, I feel bad about using the local dealer for test drives and then buying online.

Being my sceptical self, I'd be wondering why they are being so quick to try and offload their demo car with 6k worth of extras for next to nothing.
If you went in and asked for 6k of extras for free they would laugh at you right?

I'd stick to my guns and get the spec/colour you originally wanted, after all, you chose that colour and spec for a reason

O/T: But I assume you meant DtD or Broadspeed as 'Internet brokers'? I'm not put off from using DtD but would prefer to keep the business local. That said, £1k is not to be sniffed at!

If the car appears to be a different colour to the V5 and you use it one the road you are commiting an offence, whether its paint, wrap or otherwise.

Wouldn't bother me that much unless it was a particularly ridiculous colour. I prefer White, Black and Grey but wouldn't say no to something in e.g. Red or Blue, but something like Yellow for example would be a bit daft. I certainly would not entertain getting it wrapped or re-sprayed though as that's just a waste of money IMO, adds nothing to the residual value

I think in this case I would definetly take the 'Misty Blue' V40, spec sounds awesome and will make it much nicer to live with plus it means you can have it now rather than buggering arround waiting for a factory order. I reckon if you go for that you'll end up regretting it anyway as it won't have the extras. Stuff like Nav and DAB are really nice to have and just make the car better

This..

Its hardly a dream car, they all do the same thing spec for spec, youre hardly likely to ever stare at the diesel Volvo and marvel at its shape let alone the colour... dog st brown..bring it on...

Appropriate username...

OP do you actually dislike the colour Misty Blue colour or just wouldn't choose it? I think I'd take the extra toys (pan roof, nav and speaker upgrade sound quite appealing) and put up with having a toothpaste coloured car biggrin
