It was a great thread.

We've had four attempts now and every time someone comes along Fing and blinding at car salesmen/ women, and acts like a dog with a bone when we ask them to leave it alone.

It's so tiring to see time after time and I have no doubt this will go the same way. It's a shame, I agree, but hopefully those that spoil it can learn from their absence.
Can you give read-only access to everyone else, and only allow posting by the chosen few?

Can you not just remove the cretins from posting in there? Seems such a shame to lose the thread, was an interesting read.
Sure! It's only pulled when we have to spend too long monitoring a single thread, when we can't dedicate as much time as it needs.

Let's see how this goes. If we don't seem to be acting please do hit report so we're aware. It's appreciated smile

Could there not be a thread set up to ask car salesmen for deals on new and used cars? Sort of like the opie oils thread that is pinned? That would be useful and a way for people to 'potentially' get better deals?
Eg. I need car x this age etc, is there anyone that could sort me out a deal?
Tom
I think this would be useful. Maybe as a wiki so it's easy to find the car by manufacturer and then it can be easily deleted afterwards?

Couldn't agree more. Just ban any cretins, job jobbed.

I enjoyed that thread too.

Where is it? The one quoted above still seems to be restricted (to me anyway)

Oh, OK - thanks.

Seems like a lot of work for them. Wouldn't it be easier in the long run to exclude or temp ban troublemakers, then perma-ban them for repeat offences?

Yeah but now we get a place that we can tell each other how many email leads we've just deleted whilst telling tales of how we've pulled customers pants down on gap and supaguard type

Essentially car salesman hate the world.

Actually I came across a really good one recently in a Seat dealership. I had a genuine intention of buying a Seat Ibiza FR TDI (need an eco bus for work) so went for some information and a test drive.

Liked the drive, but it worked out considerably cheaper to lease one so I have ordered it on a lease. I didn't intend to waste his time but I needed to try the car and unfortunately his deal wasn't as good as another companies unfortunately.

So it got moved because of a few people being a bit rowdy? Better to warn/ban the people, no?

In fairness, some of the dealers let themselves down a bit too.

But that's history now.

By its very nature, this forum will always require dealers and punters to interact and both sides really want to as it's in everyone's interest. Good dealers drive business their way simply by being nice people on the forum and everyone else gets their car buying questions answered.

So we just all need to get along. smile

I don't think any of us minded them. I did loads of HPI checks for people.

It was the people telling us how shyte we are at our jobs and how much better we would be if we followed their advice etc etc ad infinitum that got a bit annoying....
Also done a couple of Experian checks for ppl in the thread and even outside who pm'd me.

An "ignore poster" option for members would have cured 99% of the issues on that thread (and every other thread which has 'issues' as well scratchchin ) because - as ever - it was and is the usual suspects who bring threads down (and whose posts most of us would rather not read, period) frown .

I appreciate this isn't currently an available option smile .

Hope this thread goes well thumbup .

One question (and I promise I'm not trolling, honestly) - just how good is Supagard really? I recently bought a car and the salesman was desperate to include this. As I managed to negotiate the price down further to accommodate him, I really wasn't bothered. Whether he got more commission on the Supagard than the car itself I neither know nor care - the question is about the efficacy of the product itself.

And if this post offends, I'll happily delete.

Dependant on the dealership, he may well earn more on the Supagard than the car, scary times these days.

However, the product does work. Especially on the inside, Im a keen believer of it. Its why I sell plenty of paint protection etc, but fail to sell Gap, eek
