Is a Lada Riva worth anything?
Discussion
I would take it off your hands....... It will make my russian wife over the moon (and save my own car getting killed by her poor driving!)
I remember the UK lada importers place at Bridlinton and the lines and lines of brand new lada's parked up awaiting pinstripes/wheel trims and other crappy cheapo add on parts

Get it running and give it a matt black paint job, massive hammer and sickle on the bonnet, bit of tinting....awesomeness
As tempting as this is, I've decided it's going on eBay on Monday as it is, I daren't start it up in case it burns the garage down or something - I need that garage! They were utter turds, even back in their day, basically a ruskified Fiat where they took anything good off and put worse bits on, however they were the thing blokes of a certain age bought after they traded in the Reliant Robin, it was a new car for not much money, they were horrendous to drive even realtive to an Escort MK3 but they were rugged and simple, just what you need when outside Kiev and its minus thirty five, they still had a starting handle into the seventies.
Retro Rides is the place, it isnt worth a fortune, but they do have a following, a small one, but still a following, every car does and you can ever really predict how a sale will go. One mans junk is another mans treasure.

What is amazing is how many of them they sold. My cousin had a "mink-colour" one new and I had convinced myself they were honest and rugged then drove it and thought "Hell's Bells, that steering is heavy". It was written off in a rear end shunt several months later.
I was even more amazed at the people who bought the old Moskvich and Wartburg Knight (the latter a smelly two-stroke). What would the emissions people make of those now?
Someone will still have fond memories of them though....somewhere.... even if it is an internet bride.

you might get more than you think this one is at £800 + already (looks like one of the last of them)

My mum had a brand new riva, about 1988/89 when we could first afford two cars. Me and my dad tried to talk her in to a maestro turbo, but she didn't like the turbo sticker across the back window. It was the worst car I have ever had the misfortune of travelling in,to make matters worse I used to get dropped off at school in it,private school too so there were plenty of nice cars there.
Pretty embarrassing as a 9/10 year old petrol head! Mum took out both sides of it going through the gate posts at my grandads house,he was guiding her and I'm sure he did it on purpose!
