I think it's great how the majority of people are too dim to do a 'wrong sided fuel'.
Keeps the queues down for the rest of us!

I don't like queue jumpers but if the pumps are free then its not queue jumping because there is no queue for that pump. I do it with trepidation though because in the unlikely event it doesn't reach you will be seen as the biggest smart arsed bellend ever as you drive off round the garage and join the back of the original queue.

What does piss me off though is the queue inside the shop. Why cant they just pay for the fuel and leave, why does everyone turn a simple procedure into 20 questions. No wait, what really pisses me off is when they get back in the car and adjust everything that has a button or lever whilst finding out the supermax costa coffee wont fit anywhere. Why oh why cant they just shut the door and drive off.

Trick question, you fill it from the top with bike upright so that you can fit more petrol in.
You have to be joking.

No local station will let you fill whilst sat on the bike.
Seriously? I reckon I'll leave about 10% of a tank empty if it's not upright, and I spend enough time filling the thing up as it is.

I don't like it when I have the ride the bike in LHD mode, you have to get on from the other side and it's just wrong.

No problem with a Dacia Denem or Renault 12 - that's the filler cap in the middle!

Always do.

What would she have said if you were on a bike?
Good point, should I be filling my bike from the left, or right?
How would she react to a Triumph Spitfire? Fuel filler right in the middle......

I saw an amusing, if slightly baffling one the other day, a chap was queuing for the pumps on the 'wrong' side, I've no issue with that, but there were empty pumps available on his 'correct' side. smile

In (numerous) past threads on this subject it seems this rather obvious solution is not acceptable for many people. Extraordinarily weak arms perhaps?

If I ever drive past a moron who is queuing for a particular pump, I try to ensure I'm finished fuelling before they've even started for extra PH points yes

I always join the shortest queue regardless of side. I dont see how you are jumping infront of someone, if they are in a different queue. Never had any comments or hassle from anyone in my local station.

When one drives a Jaguar one has a choice. Do they do this anymore?

My old Lotus Esprit had a petrol cap on both sides, so there was no "wrong side". Genius !!!

I know some of you have nice cars, and don't want a dirty pipe draped over your car, but in an old banger, would you fuel on the wrong side?
Yes. I do.

For me it's the ones who use the "pay at pump only" section then after filling up, leave the car at the pump and disappear into the shop for 20 minutes to stock up on an entire weeks worth of snacks.

My work is situated directly opposite a Shell garage, if you though people were generally morons on the road just spend half a day people watching people when they are on a garage forecourt, it's almost as if their brains have been switched off permanently.

For the record I will fill up on whatever side is available apart from if I'm in the van as the shape of it and position of the filler means that the hose won't stretch.

I got wrong in Sainsbury's a few months back for reversing my van up to an empty pump whilst loads of other brain dead mongs queued for ages at the 'correct side'. I they didn't have the common sense use the extra long hoses.

Does this not depend on the individual pumps to a certain extent though?

The local Tesco pumps have the hose attached from high up, and 'wrong side' filling would be very easy.

My local Shell station however has the hose come out from pretty much ground level. It would be incredibly difficult to fill up the 'wrong side' if you wanted to be 100% sure you wouldn't touch your paintwork with the hose.

Head would probably explode trying to work out whether it was the 'right' side or not.

Garage I use quite a bit has notices saying 'use both sides - extra long hoses' Except that when you actually try to fill a humble Focus from a nearside pump the 'extra long' hoses aren't actually much longer than normal. And that's with the car parked only a foot or so from the pump.

Local Tesco Express has pump hoses which are apparently normal length but pull out to give extra length. This is great as not a lot of people seem to know/care about it so sit and wait......

.....before filling up and then doing a week's shop. rage

Fuel filler is on the left so not often an issue, but I will queue up simply because I don't want to drape the hose over my car.

Why is it queue jumping if no-one else is waiting for that particular pump? I will fill on whatever side is available first even in my nice car, I can stop the hose touching the body by lifting it over.

Furthermore when a queue situation arises where all pumps are occupied I will position my car so I can go either way depending on which side frees up first.
