I like it - it's more grown up and a lot less shouty, something I think Subaru needed to do to get away from their current image in the UK which has gone down the pan. It looks lore like a new Legacy, which IMO is no bad thing.

What I thought.

I'm wondering if an STI version will be a completely different model. So the WRX is the warm version, as always was, compared to the STI fire breathing monster.

They have so lost their way. Whilst an Impreza was never beautiful it at least used to have a certain charm to it (owned 3 in the past). Sort it out Subaru mad

So depressing. My Impreza Turbo is 13 years old, looks vastly better and is probably just as fast as this (100kg+ lighter probably, same torque and just 30bhp down). Subaru PLEASE make a new car I can actually aspire to!

I had to look them both up. I get your point, and second the question.

I think it looks more like a Volvo front. The rest is a bit boring.
I thought it was a volvo! If it hadn't been for the title... first sight of the front quarter photo had me wondering why they'd messed with the grille...... and can someone tell me why they've pinched the back end from a generic 3/5 series?! C'mon Subaru, where are the insanely styled rally monsters that could adorn the walls of modern day pre-pubescent teenagers, much like they did for us in the past? confused

It just looks over weight for what it is meant to be. If they had come up with a modern P1, somewhere between a GT86 and this then it would have gone down much better.

I have a 2007 WRX which is great fun to drive but pants on the MPG front. I'd imagine the new one won't be much better as the engine sounds a similar spec to a 2007 STI. There won't be much demand for a 25MPG car today!

My first thoughts too. Closely followed by the fact that a 10 year old JDM Legacy GTB looks far better.

Best looking Subaru ever ... I bought a JDM Legacy Turbo new from David Hendry in Malmesbury in 1998 - traded in my trusty Impreza Turbo for it

sleep Yawn - has Subaru lost all sense of design inspiration / direction..?
They have to 'evolve' with the times dude. Those wheels are gash but I suppose they can be changed. I think the new design fits well with where the Impreza was and should now be. It never was pretty but it always looked cool. Would have preferred the original concept they released some time ago now.

I suspect this 'bland' car is just what Subaru need in the UK; price it clear of the German competition, and it has to be an attractive proposition.

It started going wrong when too many shouty STIs appeared in the UK, before that it was the discreet(ish) Impreza Turbo with its anonymous saloon body and basic interior sitting on top of that banzai power train. The new car looks, to me, like a return to that concept.

Make available a Performance Pack to 300bhp and that would make a very quick yet practical car.

I'm in

But please Subaru UK, just bring in the JDM cars and don't stick any st on them.

Reminds me of the MG6 from the back. previous shape 3 series side on and the front wing has the line from a Nissan GTR

I don't think its an ugly car, it looks far worse than that....plain. But in my opinion the WRX was never a car that caught my attention. The STI and pro drive ones however did.

For me Subaru needs to re-visit its roots and create something truly inspiring, but it seems the majority of the non petrol head people don't want this at the moment.

The problem is not really looks, more that Subaru simply haven't moved the game on at all. Back in the mid-late 90s the humble Impreza turbo would trounce ANY VW/Audi/BMW offering within 50% of it price-wise. Now the WRX is barely on pace with a golf GTi and the STi beaten by the M135i/S3 which are similarly priced yet better in almost every way.

I don't see what the problem is tbh. No Subaru has been a pretty car, in fact almost all Jap cars of this nature are either plain, boring, ugly or a mix of all three.

Lets face it chaps, this WRX looks no worse, in my opinion better, than a Focus ST, Golf GTI, Mazda MPS, Renault Sport Meganne, etc etc.

That really does look dismal, does this company just not learn from it's mistakes. WTF!
