A few years ago I went out in a TVR Cerbera, then the next week I went out in a Impreza Sti tuned by prodrive and the difference was unbelievable! Obviously not as good as a P1 though wink

Edited because I called it a Scooby.

I've liked Imprezas for a long time, especially the classic and bug eye but never owned one. My friend had a silver turbo2000 that was double rapid. I now own an Audi S4 2.7 bi turbo Avant which is as fast as and possibly a bit more refined interior wise than an Impreza, it really is a car for all occasions but it doesn't stop me wanting to scratch the Impreza itch!

I looked at Imprezza turbo wagons a while back, tbh all the adverts and owners forums referring to them as "Scooby dos" grated like fk!

Anything of that era, skyline, impreza, 200sx etc is likely to have been modified by now. Chances of seeing a standard n reg impreza are rare

After 15 years of Subaru and Evos I am feeling old too and settling down to a new S4 Black Edition.

I've just got a version of the WRXs younger but bigger brother and it's a hoot. 180kW (250'ish bhp) and all wheel drive in a low-key estate body can be entertaining.

Presume all those saying how great the Subaru is but now buying S4s also have pipe and slippers on order... biggrin

As stated earlier, a N Registered WRX would be a Jap import and be a minimum of 256bhp. Probably at least 300bhp these days.

I had two Imprezas a 280bhp one and a 360odd bhp one albeit it UK Turbo 2000s obviously both the 'classic' shape. Mega rapid. Back in the day thee 360bhp one felt like nothing could beat it on the road...then I got my bike licence.

I picked one up a couple of months back with 75k on the clock, full history. Its a UK2000 but luckily the previous owner had a few mods done do give it a nice respectable 280bhp.

Never owned a car with such grin factor

Standard impreza these days are not that quick, when they first came out there was not much that could live with them,
In the situation that the OP saw the car ( from a standing start out of a junction ) I'd doubt there were many other cars on the road that could have bettered a WRX substantially to 60 i.e. got into the 4 seconds bracket.
At higher up speeds, perhaps, but off the mark that sort of acceleration is still pretty quick in my books

Anything that would be frighteningly fast below 100 and have 4 WD - I've got an E92 M3 at the moment as context.

WRX STi V1 - WORST car I have ever owned. It had been ruined by a previous owner. In contrast, my E39 M5 is the best car I have ever owned, and no one ever accuses me of being a chav in it wink

I had a standard Turbo 2000 a few years ago

I loved that car, one of my favourite I have ever owned

Fond memories and the noise, I do love the noise they make

Great cars (in my humble opinion).

I have owned seven since 1999.

My current Impreza is a 1995 STi Type RA with 50,000 miles (bought it in October 2013 for £3,000 driving).
