Tyre wear rate RS6 - normal driving

But to date my total spend is scale raging to well over £800pcm - without need for expensive changes like cambelts brakes or anything which breaks - so I am very much weighing things up at the moment nearly a year so a real potential time to change.
You have got to REALLY enjoy driving a car to spend that kind of wedge! I am sure it is ok but it seems to me you can have at least as much fun for a hell of a lot less. It just means giving up some toys, luxury, badge, bhp etc. Ok a lot of sacrifices. But I think you can have a lot of fun if you go back to lighter cars.Sounds like you need a decent suspension geo check and make sure there is nothing worn
And most importantly keep the tyre pressure's in check,
The amount of people that drive with half flat etc is unbelievable
Not that I'm implying your 1 of them
And see how you get on if your not broke by then

Audi Q7s get about 5k from a tyre, the RS6 is a bit lighter but not much.
I'd expect brakes to wear quite quickly too.
Really surprises me. My GL420 has managed 15k on the last set of tyres, and is a good bit heavier and more powerful than all but the V12 Q7. Still another 5k of sensible life, I'd say.I'd expect brakes to wear quite quickly too.
And no, my name isn't Miss Daisy.
£900 for a set of tyres, are you mental???
I run Kumho KU39 Ecsta LE sports and typically getting around 8/9K out of a set of rears and the fronts are on 13K and still lots of tread. Spending £900 on tyres is crazy when most of your mileage is commuting.
I'm not sure if you frequent Audi forums but a lot of the members tend to state how much they spend on their RS6 as a badge of honour, not entirely sure why. I run my car well and try to do it for as little as possible. Unfortunately all the tales perpetuates the myth that these cars are somehow otherworldly regarding expense to run. They are not, they are just as expensive as any other £60K+ performance car from the early 2000's.
If you are close to £800 a month on running costs you simply bought the wrong car (though I remember you contemplating an RS6 despite doing a lot of miles commuting which your old BMW was perfectly good at)
Since I bought mine I have done nearly all the expensive stuff (Paint/brakes/cambelt/suspension) and I'm still way under £300 average for spend doing approx. 8K a year.
You need to sell the RS6, it is a great long distance commuter car IF you can afford the running costs.

I echo your sentiments exactly mate. I really don't know why people brag about how much they spend on their RS's, surely most people will want to spend as little as possible whilst not compromising looking after it properly. I certainly do.I run Kumho KU39 Ecsta LE sports and typically getting around 8/9K out of a set of rears and the fronts are on 13K and still lots of tread. I saw your posts a while ago when you acquired the car, how has the car been? Any dreaded slushbox issues?

If he actually drives it that is. Ha.In this £800/month, he's including absolutely everything including £2300 worth of depreciation which means he must have bought very badly.

Car has been excellent and so far so good! Slushfund is in place for the gearbox should it go I saw your posts a while ago when you acquired the car, how has the car been? Any dreaded slushbox issues?
Currently in my local trusted garage for a service which is including the gearbox and diff oil changeout this time. Also the H&R's are finally going and some new KONI's are going on, will be interesting to see how the car rides now. I nearly took it to Audi Ayr for a gearbox service as they quoted £90 for it (I can barely buy the fluids myself for that amount)
My theory on owners sometimes stating how much they spend on their 6 is possibly to optimise their resale value? Unfortunately I think it works the opposite way in that the myths that are bouncing around the forums (and you only have to look at this thread with some of the posts) gives the impression the C5 RS6 running costs are eye watering and way above its contempories of the time.
Sadly most readers on this thread will see the £800 a month running costs headline without seeing that it involves commuting 15K+miles a year and all the other wearable/service items the car will consume in that time. Anyone can see that mileage is crazy in a car that although decent on a steady run will drop in to the mid teens mpg on a stop start commute.
The RS6 in my opinion is a modern classic, it's just a shame the forum/internet bashing deprives the car of the following it really deserves.
WB, do you suffer from long pockets and short hands? Never heard a PHer complain so much about the cost of things related to cars. Not everything needs to be and should be calculated with performance cars...especially consumables, especially when you use the the performance.
I have its little brother the S6 and as its my choice, I accept the appropriate costs.
Sounds like you're out of your depth in expectation with the RS6...

Will be measuring the tread depth soon to see if the wear rate has continued.
Fancy answering any of the questions in this thread WB?So when are you chopping it in for the 335D then?
Currently it seems I be over 2/3rds B road up from old trend
No good deals on 3 series diesels all have been pulled
They are 255's didn't get what you meant initially so I checked the tyres and yep 255's so no idea where you got that - I checked my summary and it states. 255's there then I looked into the individual cost history and you'd picked it up there this has been rectified (I don't normally put any comments in the notes not do the vast majority on PH so just adding more detail for my own benefit.
Know the costs before hand but as always man maths plus no one had said 6k out of a set of rubber -but as said above need another measurement soon to check the trend
Never been on RS246 however from my understanding (like Bimmerland) its very much a USA forums.

RS246 is most definitely a British forum not US.

We just changed the fronts after 11,000 miles.
If a Citroen C1 can do that in that distance, am damn sure something with many times the power and weight can.
Which boots is your little Citroen sporting? If a Citroen C1 can do that in that distance, am damn sure something with many times the power and weight can.

Err... Let's put it this way, if you have an RS6, you know about RS246 unless you car is still under warranty and you don't give a hoot about costs.

Well I certainly didn't before I bought so there you go. RS246 is most definitely a British forum not US.
Thanks for pointing it out will take a look
