Slightly off topic but do you guys do performance upgrades for other Mazda models such as the RX8?
So hard to find performance upgrades for these without going down the expensive turbo charging route or engine swap...

Thanks
Yeah, but anyone will struggle to uprate the cams in the Rexy....
wink

Still can't retract from the fact that a male driving this car will make him look like a homoravopops bumboy. Great chicks car though.

Only to Knuckle Draggers who assume there is a link between the car you drive and your sexuality, normally because they are insecure about thier own.

I always think it's ironic when people go on about the effete image of MX5s, basically saying they don't like them because of the way they look. Surely picking a car on it's looks or image is far more "hairdresser" than buying a car based on how it actually drives?

Driving a car that chicks love is gay, whilst driving one that chicks hate and men wk over is totally hetro, right?

Makes total sense.

Indeed. To this day, I can spot (and get annoyed by) trivial inaccuracies by younger journalists when they write about 1980s cars ...

This looks like a great kit. I'd have it without the lowering and the bigger wheels though. Cars that lean are more fun; and as for bigger wheels, they are an exercise in peacock-pointlessness:

"What’s immediately apparent from the results is that as the wheel-and-tire packages get larger and heavier, acceleration and fuel economy suffer. Neither is a huge surprise, but we measured a 10-percent drop in fuel economy and a four-percent degradation in 0-to-60-mph acceleration from the 15s to the 19s, which is worth considering should you be thinking about “going big.” " From: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/effects-of-up...

Bigger the wheels; smaller the brain ...

Fella's it is a chicks car, they are great fun to drive but owning one as a man is questionable. Obviously you lot disagree as you probably own them. Its like owning a Mini convertible - chicks car. Audi TT convertible = chicks car. Those god awful beetles - again its a chicks car! Im not a badge snob nor insecure. I drive a Hyundai (most boring car in the world) But it does the job, prob considered a Mums school run car, id tend to agree. Surely spending all that money on a mx5 to try and make it look more beefy just reiterates what I said. Its 0-60 time is pretty poor too, 8 seconds with a car of 200bhp, mind you take the shopping bags out the back and you might get 10 tenths.

Audi TT, Mini, Beetle. All FWD fashion accessories with little to no effort put into driving dynamics. They are explicitly aimed at materialistic women who put appearance over everything else.

MX5 is a cheap, lightweight (relatively) RWD sports car with excellent driving dynamics. Aimed at driving enthusiasts who don't give a st what it looks like, only what it drives like. Whether the rood comes off or not, is irrelevant.

You sound like you care more about the appearance than how it drives, so by the sounds of it you fall in the first category.

so along with 0/10 for attempted humour, it's 0/10 for reading ability too. The quoted 0-60 time of 7.9 seconds is for the standard car with 160bhp, not this modified one.

Whilst the TT and Beetle are essentially reskinned VW Golfs, BMW have put rather a lot of effort into the driving dynamics of the MINI. Sure, the convertible is a bit pants and the Countryman etc are nowhere near as resolved (and butt-ugly) but the original 3-door MINI has a very sweet chassis and is an absolute hoot to drive - as it was designed to be.

You guys are so much fun, MX5 owners club must be exhilarating!

I stand corrected ref the 0-60 time, however for a standard 20k + mini convertible sports car (or whatever its classed as) that's still pretty poor. Luckily, as implied over and over and over, fulfilment is acquired from the dynamics of the car, just as well.

No humour from me, no need. Looks like there is enough fun to be had buying a MX5 at 20k + then spending upwards of 2k on tuning it, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask when robbing people!

Good luck with your continued crusade to persuade people the MX5 IS not a girls car.

So by your logic, a car is only worth £20k if it comes with what? 400bhp? 500bhp?

Performance is pretty much the same as the GT86 and way better than the 2.0 Z4 . Yes, it's not the quickest in a straight line, but that's not the point. it's far more fun than the 275bhp FWD car I've just sold, even though that could get to 60 a couple of seconds quicker. I tested a 350Z (presumably 313 BHP is enough for you) but didn't find it as involving to drive as the MX-5 on my normal commute.

Looking at your posting history though, I get the feeling that if it doesn't have stupid amounts of power (never mind the handling) then you don't think it's a proper car.. After all - you tracked a mk1 Focus RS smile

I just assume people that can't appreciate a car on its handling alone just aren't particularly adept drivers. After all, driven well within their limits most cars feel much the same with only the acceleration to differentiate between them. On that basis an MX5 would indeed seem pretty rubbish as a sports car.

Funnliy enough just today I saw yet another RX8 driven by a woman, I seem to see this a lot and knowing how high maintenance the wankels are I think it has put me off them for life.

I know you mean a MX5 but struck a chord.

So owning a mum's school run car is fine, but owning a convertible sports car is not. Could you explain the logic as I don't really understand it, e.g. would owning an old ladies car still make you feel manly?

Also what is a "homoravopop"? Even Urban Dictionary doesn't know.

I wasn't going to reply but there has been some pretty special replies! Shucks you guys know how to make a bloke feel special....

Yes ignore the big bad naughty troll. Didn't realise we weren't allowed to express our opinions. That's how Communism started!

Tight T-shirt, shaven head. Nope just checked my t-shirt allows me to manoeuver freely and hair is still on my head, thank god. I love a bum, only on alternative Saturdays though, ex - Navy you see, that's what we used to do at sea to pass the time and search endlessly for the golden rivet!

I digress

Pretty much all cars handle the same if driven well! Really... are you for real is this a statement from the book of Suspension tuners weekly or just a made up one plucked out the sky just to add your 10 pence worth, brilliant though it is. The world would be a very boring place if so.

People who can't drive a car fast with low power but a good set up are not adept to driving! Didn't realise Sir Jackie Stewart is in the house. My focus RS had 212bhp that's 12 more than the BBR MX5, does that extra 12bhp mean I am not adept to driving, do my skills fade driving 212bhp but I suddenly regain them when I step in a car with 130bhp!

I only like cars with big power, again, I drive a Hyundai 4x4 not famed for its massive power output! 'Hang on passengers here comes the savage torque curve of the mighty 1.9ltr diesel!'

A few years a go I had a choice of many cars out of all the cars I looked at, I bought the car that handled the best, it also had the least power out of the 10 or so I chose to test drive! I bought it because it was bonkers, rare, handled well and well priced and it made me smile, still does when it works! :0)

Thanks for the character assignations, assumptions and illogical replies though, made me chuckle.

Right, I'm off to look through everyone's profiles to mastermind a pincer movement. NOT! 'You owned a fwd car in 1988 with 201bhp, your not worthy to be on this forum you power hungry, torque biased, whilst nonchalantly ignoring a good set up mentalist!'
