Swift GTi or a Corolla GTi I think.

Those twin cam 16v engines were a revelation to me back then.

+1, it'll cost pennies to run and will go on forever.

None of this going back lark. Some of us still do run a 1990 car as a daily. Just passed another MOT without any advisories and should pass 250,000 in the next month or so.
Can't fault it really, quick, comfortable, surprisingly practical and it still looks good.
Who says Guards Red is the wrong colour for a Porsche? This is lovely, such a nice shape. I almost bought one, but ended up with a Boxster instead.

Saab 900 Carlsson, or a Rover 416 with Honda engine and all the trimmings if funds didn't run to the Saab.

Already (just about) been mentioned, but I'd have a 900 Carlsson as well.

Alternatively, since I loved my 2.0 DOHC, I'd happily take a Sierra XR4x4.

Drove this as a daily for 50k miles when it was fairly old and high mileage and it was superb even then, so I would happily drive it new as a daily today...

That's a lovely colour. I didn't know they came in that shade.

Well, as I posted a few days ago a £250 banger rally challenge from Paris to Montecarlo has seen a glorious 1991 Rover 216 GSi arrive. I'm using it daily until we go later this month to see how she goes.

So far, very well indeed.
I heard a traveling sales type say how much harder the suspension was in a Honda powered GTi one around that time, saying he could drive over cats eyes in his Sierra without it making so much fuss and noise about it.

Primera 2.0 eZX, probably a 4 door saloon even though the 5 door hatch would be more practical.

I never said you had to pay for it!

Here's your 10 year old shed (it's 1990 remember)!

I'll stick with this!

A 205 1.9 GTI please. Or, for more practical purposes an E30 BMW 325i touring probably.

Did this recently (didnt actually time travel, and it was an'89, but close enough) - the chap who bought it off me has since renovated the bodywork, I see it about sometimes, looks great and I kinda wish I had done it up!

I also ran this '88 until last year as a daily
