Motoring journalist banned for speeding

The A96 is a notoriously dangerous road. I don't have much sympathy for him here.
I doubt he was travelling at 127mph, more likely a quick burst of acceleration and all over in 10 or 15 seconds. We've all done it, empty road, late at night, sweeping bend opens to long straight, quick fang, slow down.
Assuming it was 991 911, 60mph to 125 would take less than 10 seconds.
As another poster said, far safer than some of the lower speed driving we see everyday.

I've sometimes wondered how journos get away with speeding when testing; it's no doubt been debated here before but I couldn't find anything. Fast open roads in remote parts of Wales or Scotland often feature in articles in Evo, Car etc and I can't believe that they stay within the limit all the time
Maybe they drive the section of road first at legal speeds to check it's clear of the BiB, or perhaps they have colleagues parked up at either end of a particular section with walkie-talkies? Anyone on here have any experience of what these guys do to avoid a ticket?
You're not a million miles off I suspect. My car was used in an EVO feature last year, and they were using spotters. Someone will go up ahead with a walkie-talkie and when they know it's clear they'll have a drive. Judged purely on what I've seen firsthand, they don't use this as an excuse to drive everywhere really hard; they'll drive at a more sedate pace to a particular stretch of road then drive it repeatedly to see how the car behaves.Maybe they drive the section of road first at legal speeds to check it's clear of the BiB, or perhaps they have colleagues parked up at either end of a particular section with walkie-talkies? Anyone on here have any experience of what these guys do to avoid a ticket?

Ohhhhhhh, no.....he wasn't
Yes he was.He knew what the consequences would be if caught yet he still chose to drive at double the legal limit.
Moving on...
Thought everybody did that. No?
And why does it matter, as almost every driver qualifies for a six month ban under current penalty arrangements. You show me a driver who doesn't exceed a limit four times in three years and I'll show you a very rare person or a liar.
Sorry is this fking Pistonheads? Here's a good-level race driver, speeding at 127mph, at 1am on a Scottish road. Good conditions, not foggy, or pissing down, and he's lost his job and his licence because a pair of fking jobsworths decided he was driving dangerously?
That's total horsest. At 1am the rozzers should be in towns stopping the myriad of drunken assaults and brawls that go on, not farting about trying to catch a speeding driver.
Very badly done to here - no idea why he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving either - madness. He is most certainly not an idiot. I hate all the do-gooders saying 'obey the law' or else - seriously? Drive 20 mins on any a-road or motorway at the limit and you'll be overtaken a billion times.
bd speed limits - created when cars took 20 miles to stop properly and had brakes and tyres made of blu-tack. It's just horsest.

I could be traveling 120+ in some of my old cars within seconds, you get there, you back off no one gets hurt and you do it when the road is clear, well sighted and the conditions allow.
This guy probably did no more than go from mid revs in third to the top and into 4th 9-10 secs max....bang job gone.
I used to do that in my 911 and M3's, lock me up now!

Yep my Z4M was very quick to go from 50 to a lot and could be used safely but the law is the law and ridiculous at the same time, the sheaths on here condemning the bloke are quite frankly fraggles.
No, the idiots defending 120+ on a public road are bell ends. Probably the same sort of people who park in the wrong place and generally big themselves up.yonex said:

Just because it's 1am dosnt meen he's on the road on his own, nor does his ability on track make him perfect on the road. I'm sorry, but 127mph on a single carriage way is dumb. If someone pulls out of a junction, seeing your lights in the distance, not realising your going over twice the limit, things are going to go very wrong, very fast, and no amount of racing driver skill will save you from that mess. That's total horsest. I hate all the idiots who think the laws of the land and physics don't apply to them. Belive it or not, most people drive at the limit. I dont find I get overtaken all the time, only the odd idiot.
