I wouldn't mind driving one becuase of the comments made on the engine, but I am afraid that is the ONLY thing that appeals to me.

However if I had to chose an A45 it would be this one as the hatch and in particular the saloon versions look awful. The overhangs on the front and rear of the saloon, disgusting, reminds me old American cars strangely.
+1 on the styling, I find the GLA and CLA particularly ungainly - to me they just don't look like a Mercedes should.

The CLA stands out as particularly offensive - I wonder what say Giugiaro would have made of it...

New mercs are everywhere, I've seen more 64 plate mercs(usually white ones) than other other car so they must be doing something right.

The interior looks really cheap and nasty. Pics of the new C63 amg show it too has a lot of the same cheap looking silver plastic all over the inside.

They're providing better unsustainable lease deals than the competition...

It's an interesting question. What's going to happen to these "premium" cars which are bought almost exclusively on finance when interest rates go back up to sensible levels? Will enough people be able to afford to buy them to make them profitable?

I just don't know who will buy this. What's the target market for what appears to be a £50K hot hatch? If I had £50K to spend then I certainly wouldn't be spending it on this.

Maybe people who do have £50k to spare have different tastes. smile

Plus the majority of people who want one don't have £50k spare, so will take out a lease plan

Honestly think Mercedes are taking the piss out of their customers now. Can just imagine them sitting around a table dreaming up ever more stupid looking over priced cars to sell to a loyal customer base, perhaps they have a long running bet with BMW to see who can make the most expensive, pointless ugly car. BMW 2 series or this, it's a pretty close run thing.
Went and looked at a Audi Q7 4.2 at the weekend, 120 miles showing, mega spec and it was £47k. Makes this ugly duckling seem even more expensive now.
And what is that thing on the roof ? Looks like Mercedes R&D team got a few 18 year olds from Southend to work on the styling.
No, I'm not going to buy the Audi or this.

It must be my age... 53k for a fast 2 litre turbo hatch... No wait, that is ridiculous! Estate Agents call that pricing "testing the market". Test failed chaps. How on earth could you drive your C63 to the MB dealer and drive out in one of these? If ever there was a case to "keep what you got" its this.

Not sure who would buy these when the Audi S3/RS3, Focus RS, Golf R and 135i are substantially cheaper, I cant see where the extra value is, a bit more power but its basically a faster version of a fairly nondescript hatch with a Mercedes badge that mostly will get mistaken for a diesel version with the AMG kit.

Ok, it has a bit more power and is really quick but its a 2 litre engine with 360 plus bhp, arent VW going to produce a faster Golf R ? cant imagine that will be anywhere near as expensive.

Ford will be selling a 5.0 V8 Mustang with more power for getting on for 20 grand less, which I suspect will last longer than the engine in the Mercedes.

These days I dont think a Mercedes badge count for an awful lot, could understand a bit more than the other players but not 50 grand

I dread to think the price that the new C63 will end up being. By the time you add a few 'essential' options (read 'resale options') what do you think? £70k? £75k? Wouldn't surprise me.

Biggest problem for me with the A-class version cars is that at £15-20k they are ok, but above that and never mind north of £50k the interior is just far too low rent, the materials are just cheap and nasty.

I am not sure if I should reply to this thread because I will be chased by people with pitchforks.

I have had my hatchback for a month now and I love it.

It is just been run in and it goes like rocket and the most important part is ingear performance.

On the looks front I have gone for the stealth mode no spoiler and it is great because no one knows what it is but you do give game away in sport mode when you hit loud pedal

Because it sounds great and I have found handling and brakes no issue.

You have to be careful because you will find youself going very fast in no time and 0-100 mph is very fast.

As well you have 3 modes Comfort,Sport.Manual

Gearbox is very slick because I have the latest update for it.

Driving is position is fine the seats are good

Intresting comment about age I am 47 and my last car was GT86 which I had for 2 years

It is on Finance because my goal in 3 years is a C63 or latest version of the A45

I can imagine wealthy parents being conned ("it's a Mercedes so it'll be safe") by their kids into buying it for them.

Glad there are others that agree with me on the interior. All the mags have praised the interior quality - I really don't get it?!

The interior of the new C Class is excellent in my opinion and certainly the best in class which makes the interior in the A Class a real surprise to me.

With regard the cost of the new C63 just like the old model the car is LOADED as stock but you can go mad if you want.

I managed to add around £5.5k of options including the following but none are essential:

Upgraded alloys
AMG Performance Exhaust
Panoramic glass sunroof
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus
LED Intelligent Light System - high-performance headlamps
Burmester® surround soundsystem
KEYLESS-GO Comfort-package

i know styling is subjective and all that...but seriously M-B, sort yourself out. The CLA is criminally awkwardly styled and this thing is probably the best of an appallingly bad bunch.

The SL and SLK facelifts are embarrassingly poor too, ruining two perfectly sound original designs

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO MERC STYLING?

As for the new C class, well that's about as awkward as it gets

Please, sort yourselves out!
