This isn't actually true. Technically his pictures are commercial (they're being used in advertisements), and so any property or people that appear in them should be released by the property/owner or the person photographed. The rules regarding photography from a public place change once you start using the resultant pictures for your business.
Unlikely you'll be able to get anywhere near a court, of course, so best course if you're uncomfortable is to ask him to stop...
The above statement is utter garbage. There are very (very) few public places in the UK where there is a legally enforceable control on photography, irrespective of the final use of the image.Unlikely you'll be able to get anywhere near a court, of course, so best course if you're uncomfortable is to ask him to stop...

There's quite a lot there, but basically the law provides very little protection to the OP in this case. He would have to argue on the basis of harassment or Article 8 of the ECHR regarding privacy (but in this case you can't really have a reasonable expectation of privacy if your driveway is fully visible to the public and you are not in the photo).

I doubt there's anything in it, the guy is probably just looking for somewhere out of the way/nice to photograph the cars. If youre not comfortable with it, just use a bit of common sense and tell him, Id be staggered if it went any further. Most people arent clued up enough on the law to know whether theyre in the wrong or not, so if he gets awkward then just blag it.
That way, if/when he ignores you, youre perfectly within your rights to kill him and wear him as a skin suit.*

- Not actually a lawyer so check on this first.

It's only a forum, love, don't be rude It's not about the act of taking the photo, which can (as you say) be done from pretty much anywhere in the UK. If someone owns something in an image (a likeness, trademark, building) that is being commercially exploited the owner may have a claim against the exploiter. It's pretty unlikely but that's why image libraries etc will often ask to see a commercial or model release if images are submitted for use in advertising.

This.Ask him politely. Tell him that your wife is feeling very nervous, suffer anxiety, long story, etc, sure he understands, etc, but could he possibly find somewhere else?
Keep it friendly and blame the missus, basically.

Go and photograph a car outside his house, then email it to him asking if he'd like to buy it.
Take a picture of your car parked in front of his house with a picture of your car parked in front of his house with one of his adverts in the window of the car.Print picture, post through letter box. it's like car inception...
