It could happen anywhere, even a local UK circuit. Less likely perhaps, but the possibility isn't that remote. I've seen some huge crashes at Castle Combe, where the occupants would likely have been dead without a roll cage, and I've seen cars without cages crash and been amazed that they were OK.
I guess they were a couple. It's really sad

not the same really. the ring sees road cars going a lot faster in sweeping bends. in many places there you can take a blind or near blind corner at over 100mph. same road car would be well sighted at Combe (as indeed most uk tracks) and be well under 90. Issue at Combe would have been proper racing whereas here people driving fast on a tf day didn't expect to see stationary trafiic. Even if yellows did exist, on a tf day many wouldn't be experienced in looking for them or responding to them.I guess they were a couple. It's really sad

I imagine it was a bit like these lucky lads, it's a very very quick part of the circuit which once comfortable is taken almost flat out and is partially blind:

Both were tailgating like idiots, I bet in their heads it wasn't their fault though.https://youtu.be/pdPk6mA_gZs
Every death is tragic - the 'Ring has suffered so many.
More traffic than ever before, faster cars, 'ring hugely attractive to more than ever before.
In the scheme of things, for mileage covered, do wonder if deaths are in line with everyday motoring. And these cars are being driven at full pelt , often against the clock and video'd.

First time we ever went we never booked rooms but found them easily , drove up , parked in a half full car park , bought a ticket and off we went , time and time again .
Fast forward a dozen or so years and it's a traffic jam for 30 mins to access the track , I'm more interested in standing watching now , there's to many clowns with something to prove these days , lots of them turn up in the fastest thing they can buy and think they are instant racing drivers .
I've never had an incident but have come close at adenua with people coming down the inside and almost running into the side of me .
It's terrible that people died but it's only going to get worse , anyone who goes for tf will know what I mean .
Actually, I think TF isn't as busy these days compared to perhaps 4 years ago. There was a period where it almost became pointless in going if it was open all weekend, I know it's still busy but it isn't like that anymore apart from perhaps car Friday at Easter.
If the track is open all weekend and it's sunny and busy I find if you don't lap between 11:30am and say 3:30-4pm on a Sunday you can still get some seriously good laps in. The nutters mostly lap in that 4 hour Sunday window in my experience, so head over to brunchen, grab a poke of chips an a hotdog and enjoy some Herbert trashing his car for a few YouTube clicks

You have a good point , Sunday afternoon after 5pm is really quiet usually , I've enjoyed the laps I've had at that time , I'm just always mindful that I'm moving on early the next day . The time you speak of was ridiculous , we started driving along the road to Mayen for lunch and a walk around .If the track is open all weekend and it's sunny and busy I find if you don't lap between 11:30am and say 3:30-4pm on a Sunday you can still get some seriously good laps in. I'm there for the old timers weekend in a couple of weeks time , I'm hoping as its not open until 1pm sat and sun it may be a little quieter but I'll not hold my breath .
I crashed there years ago but have been fine since. It needs to be respected and now I for 3/4 days every once in a while and only do the sessions during the week when it is less crowded. Of course there are some idiots now and then but I do see lots of competent highly aware drivers. It does demand a lot of care in the rain because runoff areas are so very short. Very sad story here for all involved.
