42K, then add the options that come standard on an A3 and its suddenly 50+K.
If you want a shopping car buy a shopping car.If you want a sportscar buy the Porsche.
Always strikes me as weird the way half the people on PH want their cars de-contented for driver appeal and the other half want all of aunty's creature comforts. Porsche will sell you those if you really want them.
There's no sportscar at or around £42k that can get close to one of these. You'd have £5k change if you want an Elise Sport but you'll be 80 bhp short and you'll get a DIY camping holiday instead of the 9 second electric roof.

What kind of cars are people driving that they can look down on a 300 bhp mid engined roadster ?
I bet its absolutely bloody awesome and all the clueless rich housewives that buy them according to most of these threads will bloody love it as would most of us it we got chance to drive one, I dont think missing two cylinders would bother me that much with everything else it has going on.

Is there an after-market solution for the noise?
I suppose you could buy one of those things which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket and plays "Ferrari" noises through the stereo. J4CKO said:

I thought that having four instead of 6 six pots might `completely' spoil it, but as posted earlier, they have taken away two pots, but given back more power, more immediate access to it, better fuel consumption, in the same superb mid engine chassis. It would just be a question of a buyers priorities. The six pot will still be available in the S, but at a premium.

I currently have a 981 boxster GTS which is my daily drive and I think its amazing , someone at my Gym owns a 718 s and having spoken with him he is very pleased with it (he previously owned a merc SLK so perhaps thats not surprising) , I have heard him drive across car park I will admit it did sound a bit like an original beetle run through an amplifier but will that stop me buying one , no , in part because what else can I buy there is not a lot of choice when it comes to 2 seat convertibles not a lot of choice
Minor point but Im also surprised about options comments , yes I guess they are expensive but no one says you have to have them

'...better fuel consumption...'? Now that's interesting. Has anyone actually done a real-world test against the old '6', to see what improvement there is? I'm sure the 718 is a fine car, but if they offered a 6 with similar output but poorer economy, that is where my money would go - so point me in the direction of that pricey 'S' you speak of.I thought that having four instead of 6 six pots might `completely' spoil it, but as posted earlier, they have taken away two pots, but given back more power, more immediate access to it, better fuel consumption, in the same superb mid engine chassis. The extras you list above, don't come to anywhere near ten thousand pounds worth, so what other extras did you ask for? genuine question. Carbon Ceramic brakes? granted they `are' expensive, but cruise control is just a few hundred quid. Heated seats are only really required for leather seats, so did you want an interior trim option in full leather as well? I would guess that that would bump up the price, Again, genuinely interested in what actually put 10k on the price. Cotic said:

The two litre Turbo 4 has a combined figure of 38.1 mpg, the 2.7 six is around 32 mpg combined figure.

tut tut tut - Real world figures, not the manufacturer's nonsense please! I can get 'near' the manufacturers figures in an N/A car; never managed to get anywhere near in a turbo.Ozzie Osmond said:

Agreed - bare bones Porsches sell very well after 3 years and yield the same % of retained value as more gadgetised models. Or if they don't, then at least the £ loss is no worse. For the first time, the basic spec is perfect for me on a Cayman apart from cruise and rear sensors, which are cheapish.
In my experience there's no such thing as an option which is good for resale. Pretty much every optional extra depreciates; the best residuals in absolute terms will almost always come from a base-spec car. Poorly specced cars only struggle to sell when people price them too close to well specced cars.
