Apologies - I thought just as much, but noticed the chap with the SLK 32 AMG towards the end of the previous volume and thought I'd try my luck hanging with the cool kids. Will come back when I have something more worthy.
Don't apologise, this place is a broad church that is random at the best of times. And mental at the worst! Rosewood Red said:

Have flirted with the idea of a C215 CL500, but need gin and brave pills in abundance. And then, I'd probably want to hold out for a 600 bi-turbo or 55k, which wouldn't make the cut as far as budget goes. Either of the three seem great VFM, air suspension issues notwithstanding...
One word of advice - be fastidious on keeping drain holes around the engine compartment and hood clear and draining well. I recall a colleague talking his wife through closing up his Boxster while we were working in Ireland - a water leak killed an ECU which caused all sorts of issues. Thanks for all the kind words..I'm feeling a bit guilty for selling it now!. I've included another couple of pics to save people toggling back and forth between thread volume if they wonder what we're talking about.
The original plan was to offer it to threadists but things moved quite quickly as I'm in West London and the garage is in Newcastle and the cars up there now.
Is it worth more than £4k?
It's easy to forget but inhabitants of this thread are very much in the minority when it comes to large engined cars that are aged 10 years plus. Most car buyers either want a cheap lease or something economical / diesel. Hence the market for the cars we drool over on this thread is miniscule. It was just cosmetic stuff that needed doing, rust around the bootlid numberplate light, bonnet respray and tidying of the notorious centre console which chips easily. Probably could have done it for under a grand but then it would have been all the hassle of the 'best price m8' texts plus still having to insure it and park it in London
When they were new I think there was a 50% increase over the slk320 (£32k vs £48k) which would go some way to explaining the limited numbers sold (circa 270 over 4 years).
Looking back at the paperwork the first owner traded in a 1995 993 C2S plus about £8k!!..he must be kicking himself now!
The car itself is notably quicker since the remap /pulley. standard 0-60 was 4.9s but I've timed it on a v box at 4.3s. Where it really excels is between 80-120. Once you get above 140 there's a significant amount of wind noise around the A pillar although this could just be a problem with the seal.
All in all I think the R170 has aged well, probably better than the R171 and certainly better than the oddly misshapen R172. I also liked the fact that the slk32 was quite discreet about its performance, apart from a small bootlip spoiler and slightly wider rear track there wasn't much difference visibly between that and an slk200.
I'll miss it

Was serious about buying one due to rarity, outright firepower and imminent classic status. Unfortunately the one I was interested in a couple of months back on car and classic was a bit too rusty and hadn't had any remedial work to the body under warranty despite having fmbsh ,nor the engine upgrades that might have otherwise tempted me.
I obviously have a thing for hairdressery cars as I gave up on finding an slk and ended up with a mk2 Audi TT v6. Great at what it does but no where near special enough for a weekend ride..

Great idea - but to be proper "PH" the signs have to be in Welsh, don't they?(reference the "It's Welsh, you 'tard" in response to "Ambiwlans" - sorry for the Spoiler if you already knew this!)

Re: CLS. My dad has a 320CDi with the clever dampers and even in the comfort setting it is miles too stiff.
I can see why, when it looks the way it does, the Sports 2 setting should be crazy firm.
But when they knew the car was to be sold for motorway ennui, I cannot understand why the comfort setting is, umm, not.
It does look absolutely fantastic though.

Hello chaps, not posted for a while, mainly because my little supercharged barge continues to provide great service, whilst protecting the garage queens I have tucked away from the winter ravages.
Usually have a 124 on the go, but the last two years has really shown the gulf between barges and cars worth saving.

Do you still have the lovely 928 Carrera GT in your fleet? Not updated since 2008 (!!!)

Bargeing isn't about what you drive, it's more of a mindset.
Well that's my excuse for still being here!
Bang on! I like to think it's about cars for real drivers (not ones that are great at driving, but those of us who drive on real roads). I don't do any "sport" with my cars so why would I want stuff suspension and a lap timer. Well that's my excuse for still being here!

98% of driving (especially in an executive car) is done in an essentially straight line, and it winds me up when that 98% is prejudiced in favour of a disingenuous and vapid attempt to persuade me that anything at all about a 16-foot 4-door 1700kg diesel auto is effing sporty.
Does look great though. A proper modern classic.
