... the Dartford crossing. Can we please put this urban myth to rest.
Every time a conversation comes up with anything to do with the crossing some bright spark will say something along the lines of, the worst part is it's owned by the French, no it isn't. The crossing has never been owned by the French, it is not presently owned by the French & there are no plans to sell it to the French.
It is owned by us & controlled by Connect plus on behalf of Highways England. Connect Plus also control the rest of the M25 & some surrounding roads, Connect Plus parent companies are Balfour Beatty, Atkins & Egis Road Operations UK.
More info about Connect Plus here.. http://www.connectplusservices.co.uk/about-us/what...
So please, the next time you overhear someone come out with this old chestnut tell them they are wrong and that the true information is freely available on the internet.

Nasty rumour I heard that Renault and Peugeot are also French- bds will be claiming to make wine nex.
Is this Brexit Britain ? .
Well, you can choose not to buy French stuff if you want, we can't choose not to use the Dartford Crossing. And 150 jobs went when they ditched the toll booths. Is this Brexit Britain ? .
But I'm more annoyed at just how crap the new system is.

I quite like it save for a 'Low balance' email when the account gets to £10.But I'm more annoyed at just how crap the new system is.
They can fk right off. I use it for 6 crossings a month on average, 2 at least after 10pm, so my current balance will suffice for the next month. I don't go to Tesco's, give them money then get my goods, it's goods first & pay before leaving.
Pay me interest on my lodged funds & il use it as a bank or sort it to work like how I pay the Congestion Charge & bill my credit card once a month!

The queues on the south side can be a hell of a lot worse than they used to be. Seems to be the automated closure of the tunnels for overheight vehicles that's causing problems.
Yes, I've noticed that too, especially in the evenings. Before Pay as you go I think I could count on 1 hand how often they closed a bore for the tankers when I was there, now it seems almost every crossing I make!

Good grief man no it isn't read the links you quoted from my op, but even if it was run by the French that's not what the thread is about. Also, the reason why people think that the toll is french owned is because it's French run. That's as relevant to the thread as it gets.

Yeah, and if you bothered to read the link I posted, you'd see the dart charge toll in there. If you can post a link why can't I?

Following Skanska pulling out, Atkins sold its stake in Connect Plus and is no longer a partner. It is owned by us & controlled by Connect plus on behalf of Highways England. As far as I'm concerned the British public own it, it's on our land and it was promised that when it was paid for it would be free to use. I could see a justification for charging commercial vehicles other than that it's theft. Lying s, although I guess they could have argued that outside of 'peak hours' that it's charge free. Here's some fake news, it's the best sort.

There are plenty of folk wandering about the place without the first clue of things, but assured in the knowledge that they do know about them.

It is not French run.Sanef got the contract to install & maintain the toll system & nothing more. The crossing is run by Connect Plus which is not French. Also, the reason why people think that the toll is french owned is because it's French run. That's as relevant to the thread as it gets.
