Black wheels - am I wrong?
Discussion
My mk1 MX5 is silver and has black wheels, although with a silver painted lip around the edge as in the image below (not my car). I painted them that way as I like it (and they were gold before, ugh ) I don't particularly like fully-black wheels, but with that little silver addition I prefer them to all-silver wheels.

Black wheels depends on the colour of the car.
White / black, good but very asian spec (C63 etc).
Red and black, mmm yes like a mans wash bag.
Blue and black, common but does look OK in most cases.
Black and black, no. You lose the definition of the wheel.
I think if you have black wheels you do need body coloured calipers or some sort of detailing going on in your wheel.

I had black speedlines on my Clio 200 as that was their standard colour, I did have them re-furbed to gloss black as satin or matt finishes look horrible IMHO on a car, but thats another discussion.
I would never have black wheels on a car again, the wheel design gets lost in the arch shadow over a certain distance. Also, so many barried cars have it done these days it looks bad on a good car.

No offence but I have always struggled with the Fiat 500 being a performance car. I love the Fiat 500 design but the look is like sticking a giant spoiler on a Micra. I would want a standard looking one with the Abarth power.
Question of taste obviously....
None taken it's certainly an acquired taste. For me it fits the bill for city living. Question of taste obviously....

Even if black doesn't necessarily look bad, given the choice I'd pick silver.
But there are always exceptions
I concur. But there are always exceptions
Back in the early 1980's I had a Mk4 Cortina, Spax suspension, 2.0s Bumpers, interior, dashm and Capri wide dish rims which I sprayed to look the same as the wheels on that Porsche.
Im in full agreement, the Porsche is fine as the polished dish breaks it up from the tyre, I dont mind this anywere near as much.
My golf was a black edition or something, with black back headlights which I love and black wheels which I hated and got rid of as soon as i could.
I felt like a drug dealer or a knob aspiring to be one. plus they were nice wheels (vw talledegas), but just invisible in black
My favourite is gunmetal as normal silver is just that the same on 99% of cars that no one cares about. I went for white which gives it a bit of motorsport look, but is a huge pain to keep clean
