Much better looking than the Mazda and a better drivetrain. The person who reviewed this car needs to man up.
You're in a minority there - that Fiat with it's huge overhangs is properly hideous.
Agreed, saw one in the metal the other day and it really wasn't an improvement! Lumpen and misproportioned to me... That's before we get to having a small turbocharged engine compared to a bigger N/A lump.

Did you see a Fiat one or an abarth? Well you would have heard the Abarth one way before you saw it, they sound glorious

My wife has an Abarth 124 and I've got an MX5 RF. I like both cars. I think it's great that they have distinctly different characters and are not Toybaru style badge-engineered twins.

The Abarth will be the more "familiar" sports car to most people. It's pretty stiff and flat and disciplined. The steering is weightier. The clutch and gearshift action a little heavier. The view out the windscreen is of a longer bonnet. The engine takes a more lazy approach. Even though the Abarth is dimensionally identical in every dimension except length (and boot size), it "feels" like a class larger car to drive than the MX5.

Everything about the MX5 is designed to emphasise its lightness. All the control weights are light (the steering may be a bit too light). The suspension is soft and designed to emphasise "movement" in every direction making the car feel a bit nervous and lively and to emphasise the feeling of agility (it's actually quite secure and has good levels of grip but you have to learn to trust it). The MX5 has a much nicer gearshift and clutch. The SkyActiv 2.0 is really refined and has great response and a surprising torque spread. It's a really nice linear power plant that doesn't mind being revved...but it will pull cleanly without hesitation from 1800rpm in ANY gear.

At first, I preferred the Abarth. With familiarity however, it's the MX5 that I've learned to love. It's the more "fun" to drive.

So PH have gone and got a 124 for their fleet. I’m surprised considering their closing statement but I think it’s a good car.

haha I was tempted myself after getting some emails from an abarth dealer.

It's such a small monthly for a fun car but it would have to be a manual in a car like that. The manual is a fair bit more for some reason
