Escort Cosworth - Focus RS

I like the look of the Escos but you just know its a bit lame these days, its more a state of mind than a car, boyhood dream fulfilled but likely a huge disappointment to drive like the Sapphire Cosworth I drove, that said its currently a better place to put 35k than a new MK3 Focus RS.
The Focus RS has its haters, am sure it isnt perfect, but then neither was the Escort Cosworth when it was introduced, nostalgia is a powerful and dangerous thing, but I guess it doesnt matter so much if there are enough similarly afflicted people keeping the prices daft.
The thing is, currently the FRS has lost its hype and there are plenty around for reasonable money, everyone saying they would rather have a MK2 or MK1, so prices of those have gone up, there was a time they were plentiful and cheap, its a lifecycle pattern that gets applied all the time, wait 2 or 3 years, get a mk3 at the low point, then watch it go back up like the two did, try to see past the current conceived view.
You can pay 20, 30 or even 40 grand for a MK3 Escort RS Turbo which amazes me, they were alright but by god you would have to be keen to pay that !
Tuned sapphire loads more fun than the escos, more lively being rear wheel drive, much more hooligan, plus muscle car gearbox adds drama.

35k will get you some seriously quick and impressive metal so unless you are a die hard Ford RS fanboy go try some other stuff (GTR, 911, R8 just) etc etc
Can you get any of those cars with 5 year warranty and that do 30mpg with 5doors?Apples and Oranges.
But yes, far more interesting stuff available for £35k than either TBH.
If you want an all round hatchback then the Focus is OK.

Neither - I'd have a 3dr Sierra Cosworth, in Moonstone.
I still go weak at the knees when i see one and moonstone is the best colour, its a reaction from when I was 13 or 14 I cant help, its burnt in now, even though I know it would be a huge sum of money and probably a bit rubbish compared to whatever else I could buy.J4CKO said:

Same here with regards to both the Sierra and the Escort Cosworths, less so the Saph. If you grew up drooling over these when car shows like Doncaster were in their heyday than it's had not to spend the rest of your life lusting after one. I still get a twinge of excitement when I see one on the road. Can't say the same for any of Ford's recent RS offerings. Nevertheless, maybe the youth of today will be getting all hot under the collar about the mk3 focus RS in 20 years time, who knows?!Toyoda said:

That's it Leins - Imperial Blue though
The white one looked good though against the contrast of the black Delta/GT4 / Italian sun in the Cironi clip
Very much so, and do like a GT4 too, despite them not being anyway near as desirable as the other two right nowThe white one looked good though against the contrast of the black Delta/GT4 / Italian sun in the Cironi clip
OT, but his vids are excellent

I'm currently looking for an Alfa 105 step front like this, £35k is doable. Now tell me which looks better, cossie, RS or this?
Every budget these days has lots of exciting potential if you are after something to hold its value or even go up perhaps!
