Makes me feel good about my short shift equipped manual 997 GTS with 408 naturally aspirates horses and similar weight...only thing this has that I'd want is the LSD which I could get retrofitted I suppose!
If this had the GTS engine and was a bit more expensive it would make a lot more sense...."driver focused" 911 with the least powerful engine is a bit of a curate's egg!
I love my 7GTS as well - if anything it's even a little too powerful for the road IMO, so the lack of ponies in the T isn't an issue for me - I'd just want them in NA form.If this had the GTS engine and was a bit more expensive it would make a lot more sense...."driver focused" 911 with the least powerful engine is a bit of a curate's egg!
Incidentally, I'm not missing the diff either, but then it feels a bit too planted for me to be doing sideways stuff on the road.
Randomly, my old 7.1 GT3 wanted to go sideways at the drop of a hat on the road - strange that the similar torque from the GTS doesn't result in the same thing. I wonder if it's tyre choice

Buy a normal one and go on a diet yourself ? spend the 8 grand on a cheap Westfield ?
911's are getting to be like really expensive Pokemons, a bit of cloth as a door handle, because racecar, about as authentic as Ripspeed seatbelt pads in a Saxo, am sure it is great but come on, it is really quite similar to the ordinary one , its like a posh Ford "ST line" or something.

Porsche should start a sub brand, and make a (really) light, small, extremely chuckable, cheeky little sports coupe/convertible. 1000kg, very narrow, very short, moderately quick only, set up as a fun road car, not one that only fully be appreciated on a track.
This would never work. It would be far too expensive to develop and would then end up being another GT86 type success, i.e. everyone will say they want it but no-one will buy it.Shorter gear ratios? Now, that sounds interesting! Being able to work the engine through the gears without doing silly speeds (like the 100 mph+ most recent Porsches reach in third gear...) makes street driving so much more rewarding.
The weight saving is hardly relevant, 20 kg isn't really going to be noticable... except perhaps for more road noise in the cabin?

I think you are all being unnecessarily harsh! This gives you a fair bit more over a standard Carrera and you can option it the way a standard Carrera simply can’t (full bucket seats for example). The focus has been on enhancing the driving experience rather than outright weight saving.
Hardly "more driver oriented".
It is just a marketing gag, driving people into ordering more "packaged" Carreras.
991 S loaded and a few bhp more = GTS
991 loaded , same bhp = T.
Those 20kg are in the end more like 5 and a lot of people will order the Navigation/Multimedia to fill that hole in the dash.
My ideal "T"? A more freely revving engine, something with a redline at 8-8500rpm, ~400bhp, single mass flywheel, 6 speed gearbox from R/GT3, 1-200kg less than a plain Carrera, exclusive wheels and 1-2 special colours (green, etc).

Hmmn.
If this is meant to be a lightweight version, or 'lighter weight' then why do we have "inside you'll find lightweight four-way electronically adjustable cloth seats..."?
Another easy weight loss would be to ditch the electrickety motors and have those lightweight seats adjusted manually.
Or better still, have them so they need to be adjusted by a spanner (I'm not referring to my ex-wife, there, btw..)
Thinner carpets (a bit like the Mitsubishi Evo RS cars iirc) would also add to the experience, wether they reduce weight much or not, as would cardboard-like sun visors. In fact, whilst I'm on it, why not ditch the passenger one altogether?
A GRP boot lid and engine cover would also help too in my mind.
Without those, as it stands it appears to be another Porsche Cynical Marketing Ploy.
In fact, I think I'll email the ad-men at Porsche and ask if I can patent the acronym 'PCMP' to sit alongside their own PCCM etc.
My choice would be a Cayman GT4 instead of this, as I could purchase that from a specialist or a private individual, andthat would keep me out of the Porsche Main Dealers avaricious grasp.

yep, and if you really want you could just buy a base 991 then a carbon fiber bonnet for £2k which will save a genuine 10kg over the steel one and have resale value, the other 10kg you could save by removing the rear seats."nylon door loops in lieu of handles" is pretty feeble really when they could have easily saved the weight elsewhere

it's an option to keep the rear seats apparently
So you pay extra for less, then pay even more to spec it back up to normal Carrera level! Genius!Personally if I had cash for this sort of thing I might actually buy this with seats as they are an the infotainment it would be as basic a car as you would like an probably quick enough (4.1 to 60 I think)
Also I like models where you choose a pre defined spec rather than have to reate this yourself - though would agree the pricing is steep but its a Porsche not a Kia so got to expect that

similar to the m3 csl and the porsche boxster spyder, the quoted weight savings over the normal car were -a/c -stereo but 99% of buyers specced them anyway and lost a massive chunk of the weight saving they paid for in the first place! And to think on last weeks GTS thread I said....
"Wow, another new model from Porsche, is it that time of the week already ?"
Is the confusing constant release of new models with tiny spec changes not getting silly now? Porsche would be better simplifying the 911 line up to just 3 badges ('Carrera' with a standard body, 'Turbo' with a wide body, and 'GT' with a lightweight shell) then letting each buyer spec their cars how they like. Do you want 2 or 4 wheel drive, 3.8 or 4.0 litre, stick or paddle gearbox, door handles or bits of tape, proper bonnet badge or sticker etc.... every Porsche made is customised to some extent already and you certainly wouldn't be paying extra to have something removed like you are with this new T!
