As for the writing style of the review; superb. Using a more sophisticated construction, more advanced grammar and a higher vocabulary it gladdened me and captured my focussed attention in a manner that the less complicated musings one usually encounters during car reviews generally don’t.

Keep it up.

I'm still struggling to decipher the opinion of the writer through the synonym, metaphor riddled bullst fest. Dreadful! And 18" brakes, really?

As pointed out by others, the price difference makes this something of a non-comparison. Would it be compared with a £31k Civic Type R or a £32k Focus RS? Nope!
Agreed re the content. 18” disks lol, v poor piece.

Very good to hear the Hyundai is a viable choice at the first attempt in this segment.

As for the complaints about the write up, I read it a second time in case I missed something. Nope. Understood it perfectly.

I can respect the style of writing isn't to everyone's liking but for those saying they can't actually understand it then either you should have tried harder at school or you were just unlucky when they handed out the IQ's cos I certainly ain't no academic................

I’d say that Hyundai is more of upcoming Cupra R rival, despite the on paper power disadvantage, it really is that good!

Yawn. Another over-powered FWD hatch that still can't crack 60 in under 6 seconds. I suppose it would make a decent station car after the first owner has to hand it back after PCP'ing with all the options boxes ticked. Is there any torque-steer with the LSD or does it drive like a Focus RS Mk 1?

I don't know why £28k on a Hyundai is causing consternation here - I was in their showroom a few weeks back looking at a used i30 hatch. While the salesman went off to get the keys or something, I was idly looking around a new Hyundai Santa Fe big 4x4 full wardrobe all-the-toys model. It looked very impressive, though I'm not a 4x4 fan. I thought the interior was genuinely a nice place to be and I thought, if this is £30k, I could almost see myself.....then I looked at the windscreen - £42,000 *koff* *koff* splutter whaaaat?

Yeah, hot hatches have always been about hitting 60mph in a straight line.

As opposed to the under-powered one which can?

Shame it looks so steady compared with the Veloster Turbo. If it had those mad looks it would be very appealing.

Seat Leon Cupra available at the moment for £259 on a 1+23. Thats why the price comparison doesn't hold true as I would be very suprised if Hyundai could get to that with the expected residuals this i30 will have.
Where do find these 1 + XX lease offers (generally, not just the Leon you've mentioned)? Everything see is 3+/6+

Just enquire and ask for a 1+23 quote.

The Hyundai is £6k cheaper which even allowing for DSG (who wants that in a hot hatch really) is a big chunk of change. I’d have the i30N plus a motorbike and be very happy.
I suspect quite a lot, considering that over half of hot hatches sold where a DSG box is available are indeed sold with a DSG.
I wouldn't have a VAG performance car without DSG (providing it was under warranty of course).

Surely you mean keep it elevated? I am assuming your muscular organ on the floor of the mouth is within the spacial environs of your buccal cavity.

Do you think Nic's keyboard often gets a dab of oppo? I do.

That 0-60 is quite a benchmark indeed - particularly compared to a A3 3.2, which is an otherwise incredibly tactile, adjustable and neutral handler.

Is the 205 GTI "yawn" because it won't do 0-60 in under 6?

£35k on a Seat.........okay not a hot hatch and a different proposition, but now we're into V8 Mustang territory with a decent sounding engine and not a wheezy four pot.

And higher fuel bills, insurance bills, tyre and servicing bills (I suspect); so yep, a different proposition, like you say.

I don't get what people are struggling with when reading this article. It's a bit leaden but rather that than the asinine Shed style writing which might appeal to those for whom The Inbetweeners is a little sophisticated, etc.etc..
I'd counter that Shed writes with tongue in cheek and can be funny - which takes intelligence and wit.
IMO this is pretentious in the context of the medium.
In short, it lacks enthusiasm or wit, and is therefore quite tedious to read.

Possibly so - but really, if you're looking at buying a new car for £35k in the first place you're not going to be the type of person that's just scraping by. And at that sort of money it's very different to comparing a used sub-£10k hot hatch with a used sub-£10k Boxster (for example) where fuel/insurance/tyres/servicing starts to become a much bigger proportion of your outlay.
