I posted this mk4 mondeo in Vol2. It sold for £980 but I happen to know the buyer didn’t bother turning up to collect and that the seller would let it go for £900 if someone would be honest and show up to buy. Just incase it’s any good to anyone!

This looks pretty clean with a 12 month MOT for £690

That's cheap isn't it for an 05 with 95000 miles?

Seems very cheap if it is half as straight as it appears. Shame these don't get a good write up as drivers cars, as I quite like the look of them. Plus it's an old Hyundai, I don't think they had a great rep for being well built in 2005.

I drive a 70 mile round trip each day, I shudder to think how much it would cost me in fuel a week. Over £100, surely. My 9-3 is costing 60-65 as it is.

I don't mind the petrol costs. My thinking is - Jaguar with a V8; how long before I have to fix something?

On the plus side:
Engine power 281 bhp
Engine size 3996 cc
Brochure Engine size 4.0 litres
Acceleration (0-60mph) 6.6 seconds
Top speed 150 mph
Drivetrain Rear Wheel Drive

Where can you get 6.6s to 60 for under £1k?

A 9-5 Aero has better 40-90 acceleration than the contemporary 911 Turbo.

But it's not a Jaaaaaaag and it has half the number of cylinders...

Here's one for £550, a manual estate, that looks rather nice.

How about a one owner 2.5 v6 X Type with 62k miles and a 12 month MOT with no advisories for 750 quid?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

It's near me and actually quite tempting, despite thinking that the 3.0l must be a better bet than the 2.5l...oh and the intermittent eml.

Jag mileage can't be genuine surely, based on the MOT history?

So much corrosion at such a low mileage???

At that price it's worth a look to see if the sills have been done

Lasts weekend I tried to find a solid cheap motor.

A whole weekend of driving round found nothing but heaps with bodge repairs, rust and rot.

Scrappage deals have seemingly killed off the solids cars people could afford to maintain by swapping maintenance for finance.

Celiacs, Hyundai coupes, Laguna, freelancer, a3, 3 series it just didn’t matter.

Maybe my expectations are too high

I've been looking for weeks. Albeit for something interesting and haven't actually looked at any yet in person. Slim pickings though . . .

Quite like the look of this:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/bmw-e39-528i-se-auto...

High mileage, but history, last owner owned it for twelve years, service stamps, looks reasonably clean, and £550! If it was a little closer and I had time this weekend I would go have a look. Dealer selling it also seems to be a well regarded BMW specialist.

Trekked to see this today: https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/mer...

Complete turd. Bodywork chipped to bits in various places, Chinese ditch finders, alloys looked like they'd spent twenty years in the north sea, rust along top of windows. Also a cat c and didn't tell me. What a waste of time - didnt even let him unlock it before I left.

Check this ad out! Overly critical or just very very honest?

My favourite line...." It rattles like a skeleton wking in a tin can on cold startup...". 😂😂

And this is why I have now given in and spent a lot more money on a civic diesel

Compared to the Volvo XC60 its now replaced I'm still saving over £1500 a year on basic ownership costs (payments / tax) plus its got 4 almost new branded tyres, a 12 month warranty, a full MOT and its doing 60+mpg not 33mpg.

Volvo had thrown several warning lights recently (likely needs a thermostat and/or coolant temp sensor), a lower front wishbone gone (other is never far behind), needed 2 tyres on the front plus it was due for timing belt this year. I bet all in all I'll have save myself nearly £3000 this year by swapping.

See, I don't disagree. I'm a moron and did it all wrong. Bought a 2014 Civic for 10600 on finance. 9k miles, warranty, good fuel economy etc. Flawless. Sold it after 6 months as it was a bit dull for a Type R. Dog that cost me 2.5k in 5 months. Sold it. Now I'm looking at buying a cheap car not on finance, but don't want to be bored laugh

Nice. But a long way to go for Mainlanders. Would be a fun road trip.
