Its the Karmann Ghia of it's generation. The car aging hipster millennials will be buying in 10-15 years.
Was thinking the exact same thing earlier.Too many still about and familiarity breeds contempt, numbers will dwindle and they will have a resurgence at some point, just not yet.
I was car shopping over the past 2 weeks with a £1500 budget.
Spent ages trying to find a TT but none of the sellers had decent service history (mainly clutch and cambelt).
And most traders "Flew through last MOT" would show failures on quite a few items then passing the same day. Maybe fixed them, doubtful though.
I settled on a £500 Rusty Ford Puma with 54,000 miles on the clock which will now become a long term project that will go way over budget...

Ah.. you should watch my when will the mk1 Audi TT be worth more vid on YT...Too many still about and familiarity breeds contempt, numbers will dwindle and they will have a resurgence at some point, just not yet.
Note to editor; it wasn’t just a different Turbo that was the difference in the power output, the 225 had 2 small intercoolwr, the 180 was a single intercooler.
Also the compression ratio was different, the 225 was 9-1 and the 180 9.5-1 iirc
Sorry but please make sure you get the facts right!
Also, out of interest, first year production of the 180 was a 5-Speed gearbox if I’m not mistaken? (I stand to be corrected of course!)

The TT is the modern day Ford Capri. ..both look great, both were cheap and easy to maintain, both have dubious handling. One now a classic, the other will be when all the rest are dying out.
Always interesting how perceptions change over the years"......handles superbly....." ( CAR )
Best "drivers car" out the review

My wife had a 180 Quattro in black with black leather. If you think of it as a mini GT rather than a sports car it really works. The interior quality was a cut above the Boxster let alone the MG's, Mazdas, Z3s etc even if the driving experience was a bit wooden.
She ran it to over 190,000 miles and it stood up really well. Better than my MG at 70,000. I'd imagine a fair few of these will be clocked.

I was up at Curborough at the weekend and there were a couple of mk1 TTs being hounded around the track setting some very respectable times. They certainly didn't look to be the handling disasters that people make them out to be.
I've owned mine for 4 years now, been tracking it over the last 3 and as mentioned above they aren't the handling disasters that people expect, that said, mine is extensively modified. I know these aren't the first choice for many people as a track car, but with the price point they are currently at for purchase I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone considering one to hit the track with it.Incidentally, I am 6' 4" and 17 stone and have no issues, and my water pump is just fine and dandy thank you.

To be fair, those pics show a pre-spoiler car so it's not just that perceptions have changed, Audi changed the chassis setup to be very notably less lively after that test was written, surely?
As per recent threads, they were best left without the later mods if you wanted a "drivers car". Seems to be a few original spec still going when there was the same sort of TT thread a few months backDon't think Porsche/Ferrari would have bowed to media/PR pressure in same way perhaps.
Good news is it seems simple to return them to press review spec
