I think if everything on the exterior was black (including the rear windows) it wouldn't look as bad boxedin

Can't help but think how much of a PITA it is to park in most car parks or any side road. Even with my Lexus RX, I find I'm having to drive past parking spaces in side roads that a VW Polo could happily squeeze into. I guess I would get fitter by having to walk half a mile back to my actual destination - I could fit a bicycle in the boot I suppose!

Given there are comparisons being made on both this thread, and the RR thread, does anyone know what one of these is going to cost?

I would generally defend cars from BMW such as X3/4/5/6 so I'm not one to just jump in and have a pop at a car, just for the sake of it. But that front - dear no, it just doesn't work. It looks like its been in an accident, like its went straight into a brick wall and squashed everything up. the grills are just too big. Might look a bit better if you could body colour them pure black or something, to take the edge off it.

Having just motorcycled round Spain for 2 weeks I can say that the worst wkers on the roads drove X5s.

I hate to imagine what they will be like in this tanker.

No doubt a swoofy roof x8 will follow. Bonkers to have potentially 8 different models of SUV on the go, 3 is enough.

I wonder how many of these will be let out of junctions ?

You're yet to encounter the special sort of anger festering behind the steering wheel of every X6M50gtisuperturbo then...

The amount of doughnuts commenting that it’s an ‘unnecessary vehicle’ are, clearly, those that neither have the family or the finances to own one. That’s not to say they aren’t entitled to an opinion but I can almost guarantee it’ll change once they find themselves with four kids and a partner to COMFORTABLY haul about (emphasis on the word ‘comfort’)
I’ve already got my name down for one ,albeit in completely blacked out M-sport guise, to replace our trusty 7 seater X5.

99.99% of them will be bought by people requiring no more than 4 seats.

Last time I checked, my friend's 7 seat s-max was perfectly comfortable.

I wonder if this has much in common with the RR cullinan when you peal back the styling and bodywork.
The main thing it has in common is that if you drive one everyone will hate you.

Not comparable with the RR Cunnilingus.

This is aimed at Range Rover drivers.

If I were in the market for this type of thing I'd get one over a Range Rover. At least you know it will work.

Can you (properly, with full booster seats or whatever) put kids in the 3rd row of SUVs?

I know years ago you'd put kids in the load area of estate cars and nobody worried about it, but it's somewhat frowned upon now.

Hmmm... that’s an interesting statistic you’ve just made up.
Tell me something; how many Mercedes GLS’s do you see on the road?
I’d wager that the answer’s “not many” (if at all) which is a more direct like-for-like competitor in this segment of the market.
And, obviously, I don’t know you or your financial situation but are you seriously telling me you’d be happy with a Ford regardless of the model if you could comfortably afford a BMW?
It has nothing to do with ‘badge snobbery’ (AKA the I’m-jealous-of-what-you’ve-got mentality) but all to do with real world experiences.

Rubbish - whilst I accept I can't afford to buy one of these, I've previous owned significantly bigger than this. I now dislike these massive barges clogging our roads.

It's not about money.

In our 2016 X5 the third row is limited to seating just two which is a pain as they’re non-ISOFIX chairs meaning that only a booster seat is permitted/recommend. The middle row does comfortably sit three abreast HOWEVER, again, there’s only two ISOFIX points to use.
It’s better to think of it as a 5+2 as opposed to full on 7 seater but, according to my local dealership, the X7 should have four ISOFIX mounting points which is both beneficial and preferable to parents of young children (such as myself)

Every time a new BMW is released it kicks off a frothing rant on here about the styling.
Each time I have but one word to respond, China.
We are no longer there centre of the universe, get used to it.
+1
Not just China but the North American market as well I bet; the X5 looks tiny when sat next to full-size SUV offerings from the US makers and Merc got in with the big boys with the GL. It was only a matter of time before BMW came out with a larger SUV.
