RE: McLaren Speedtail revealed as 250mph trendsetter
Discussion
Wow looks good, but am I the only one who struggles to keep us with the sheer number of models and variations from Mclaren now?
I often wish they had just 2 or so models that existed long enough to just "be"
I'd be pretty p!ssed off if I thought I'd bought the ultimate and then 5 minutes later there is always a new model....
But then I don't have the megabucks to burn....

Curious looking thing isn't it but you can see the rational behind the design. I think I need to see one in the flesh (which will probably never happen) to make up my mind really.
Agree, people are seeing XJ220 and other slippery cars, which just shows you there are a limited number of designs for 250mph cars, or low drag fuel economy cars.Interestingly the AMG One splits being track and aero route because they have only one hyper car.

Mclaren have more than one car so have done Aero both ways on Senna and Speedtail.
Mercedes One car has a really interesting engine from F1 but seems like they are struggling to get it onto the street which is a shame, so the car is held up. Mclaren though use that old donkey engine again and look like they can keep the customers happy with "ugly" cars.
The real deal though is the Adrian Newey car. That has all the hype as the real game changer.
You can't knock their ambition, but don't you wish they'd spend a bit more money on the design of their cars?
The Peter Steven's designed F1 hit levels of majestic beauty that none of its successors have ventured near. The first of the modern era, the MP4-12C was a reasonably pleasing and balanced shape but then someone in Woking thought it would be a good idea to base all their design language on their (not particularly unique, and rapidly dating) swoopy logo
And then there's the naming. Again, the MP4-12C followed the race-team tradition, but since then, they've been all over the place — numbers, letters, names. Speedtail is a nice enough, but not exceptional, name and would at least be descriptive if they didn't already make a car called the Longtail. Maybe LongerTail might have been better (leaving room for the range topping EvenLongerTail at some point)?

Please remember that this is a development mule and not a finished customer car. You always see issues like this on such carsi can see what they are trying to achieve, it just the glass house which doesn't work for me, somehow its too cab forward and too tall to gel with the swooping rear...
thing is, i personally can forgive the Senna as it doesn't really matter what it looks like, its a balls out track day hyper car.
but presumably the speedtail should be the most beautiful car in the world? or was that not its brief?
