Put it upright, decorate and you’ve for yourself a wicked Christmas tree. But indeed, let’s hope someone revives the attempt.

I would guess the comments are an age thing, I have always been captured by LSR attempts, but clearly the yoof prefer watching rich cretins leaving cars and coffee in first and second gear to this kind of thing, how sad.

Quite like that. What's the ride like? Has anyone fitted a towbar to one?
Would hate to see the caravan after you engaged the afterburner!
Mebbe just hang a tailgate grill off the back, and scoff a burger to celebrate - "cooked at the speed of sound" - now there's fast food for ye!

It is a crying shame that the money's dried up, though.

Is £250k a cheap way of getting yourself a (if I remember correctly) typhoon jet engine for sts and giggles/whatever?

Or is that sort of stuff presumably not included due to secrecy/whatever NDA they had to sign to presumably buy one from the military?

No way the EJ2000's will be included in the sale IMO - there might be an option further down the road if you get a separate understanding with Rolls-Royce (& MOD)

Don't think they were ever 'bought' merely lent to Bloodhound as part of their sponsorship agreement.

Exactly. Rubbish laugh

I did assume and it makes sense, but effectively you have a ten (guess) ton paperweight for your quarter million quid. I can only assume a science museum type thing might want it? But seeing as it didn’t actually move, perhaps not.

The ideal new home for that would be at either the Sinsheim or Speyer Auto & Technik museums in Germany.

They have some fantastic exhibits, every thing and any thing. From a model train to a Concord, Concordski, submarines, even the Buran Russian space shuttle.

It would fit right in there as they have a section with speed record vehicles.

I don’t know why they didn’t just dust off Thrust SSC and upgrade that for the 1000mph attempt. It’s already been designed for and broken the sound barrier which is actually the hard bit. Making it go an extra 250mph (+33%) requires in essence just adding more power.

Would have saved a st ton of cash and would have probably beaten the record 5 years ago now.

It was falling apart by the time they had finished with it, the jet eflux had beaten the Ti side panels into submission, amongst other issues.

More than £65 million and 10 years to refurbish, do you think?

It's a serious point, because the 'professional' recordbreakers in days of yore (the Campbells, Eyston, Cobb, Arfons) tended to do it by designing a vehicle with plenty of potential, and working toward that potential over multiple records.

Apart from the fact that it's much cheaper, it was always my major objection to Noble's approach that he threw away even the basic design each time, putting his team right back at the start of the learning curve.

Doesn't it have a jaguar V8 as a fuel pump?
