The W124 500E / E500 strikes the best balance for class and elegance with a hint of performance.

Current AMGs are far too shouty and non-AMGs a bit boring.

Opulent. Perfect if you like this sort of thing. I'd love one.
There's nothing opulent about that interior. It's chintzy, bling sh*te IMHO. The last few years haven't been vintage for MB interiors.

Looks like they are after the guinness world record for how many buttons you can fit on a door panel.

I wonder if it comes in bolder colours - it looks rather dull in silver or white. A burgundy, brown, or deep green might make for a rather classy vehicle.

Edit - unfortunately a rather dull colour selection:

Mercedes-AMG S 63 4MATIC+:

Liking this. A lot. The Cabrio not so much.
Agreed, I don’t think these sort of cars look good with the roof down, not like a Bentley or Aston would.

It’s the same with the new 8 series, the coupes look much better, the only thing I prefer about the S Coupe to the 8 series is that it’s pillarless. However they’re not comparable to the slightest.

What puts me off this car and Mercs in general is the use of the same engine across the range, the same 4.0 V8 from the C class, to the S class to the AMG GT, sort of ruins it for me IMO. I’ve seen a few videos of the S63 AMG + in action and it’s just another farty V8 which doesn’t suit the car. I’ll have the 65 please.
I drove the G 63 last friday and it's a riot...

Agree. Although SURELY they could do something else? I think it'd look great in a nice burgundy, as you say.

Those buttons, the vents, the cubby-hole cover - they look like they've been made out of recycled Curver boxes...

I counted 22 on a C-Class I recently had the use of.

If all those swiches and vents and things are brushed aluminium, I think the interior is rather nice. If they're mat silver painted plastic, it'll rather ruin it.

If it's anything like the last the last S class or CL class, they're actual aluminium.

They are indeed, really nicely made too
